So everyone is a Nets fan now?

Why are people acting like all of a sudden the Nets are a contender in the East because they added the extremely overrated Joe Johnson? I don't get it. I understand that this is a big 3, probably the smallest big 3 in the league, but does no one remember that two of them (Williams, Wallace) were on their terrible team last year?

I just don't see the addition of one big name and a new arena resulting in a massive swing in the winning column. Maybe thats just me, maybe I haven't heard everything that everyone else has, but D-Will + Crash + JoJo does not = a contender for me.

Maybe I'm wrong? I honestly hope I am, the Nets faithful deserves a contender, but they'll have to prove it before I buy into the hype.

No one has said the Nets are a title contender yet. With Dwight? Yes. As of right now a playoff contender? Absolutely

          In this case, no one.

No one has come out and called the Nets contenders, and the Nets fans you see around here are the same ones who've been around here.

Yeah, it's like the OP saw something on another board somewhere and decide to post his reply on OS. Nothing like that has been going on here.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Nets already had Deron before and now they added Joe Johnson, don't think that's going to draw a national bandwagon fan base like it did with the Heat unless they get Dwight

Heard enough people over the last week in the NY media say even without Duhwight the Nets will be better than the Knicks next year.

Because they want to drum up a rivalry.

It's never been a rivalry even when the Nets were smacking them around years ago in their Finals runs.

There will be alot of bandwagon fans in the area that don't know crap about basketball that'll buy the BK gear and want to follow something other than the Knicks.

                  I just laugh.

Re: So everyone is a Nets fan now?

Well, I posted this from personal experiences and conversations I've had. Just because something isn't posted here, doesn't mean we can't discuss it here.

And OK, maybe contender is a bit much, but you must admit, people are talking about the Nets and the post season like its a sure fire thing, when all they've added in terms of productivity is Joe Johnson to a 22-44 team... If they get Dwight, then sure, I'll call them a playoffs team, but again no one can know how multiple stars are gonna mesh. Respectable analysts were calling for Miami to beat Chicago's 72 win record in their first year together.

Mainly I'm just hating the hype and the over confidence in a team that we haven't even seen play together yet.

...this coming from a Laker fan and I'll admit, I don't know if Nash is gonna make us more competitive... obviously it makes us more talented, but who knows whether that will translate into wins. Time will tell.

The Nets are getting press bc they're moving to Brooklyn and trying to build a team to make that move relevant... no more, no less. Nobody is calling them contenders as is, but the assumption is still that they'll get Howard so speculation is being made as if that move has already happened. But the title of this thread is misleading. If you want to know why there are more Nets FANS popping up, Brooklyn is a large reason. If you want to know about the BUZZ, the expectation of Howard is the reason.

We're talking about a relocation across a river.

I mean, I get why people are talking about them... the move, the solidifying contracts of Deron and Crash, adding Johnson... I get that.

I just don't see much in terms of expectations and why they're so huge already. I mean, they haven't even got Howard yet!

And to say no one is saying this is ridiculous. I saw a video on ESPN the other day when referring to Dwight, saying that the Magic shouldn't take the deal with Brooklyn, which involves 1st round picks, because the team already is a top 10 team with the addition of Joe and with Dwight would be a top 5 and thus making the picks useless.
Again, just because people on OS have some sense not to spout off and say NETS 2013 CHAMPS does not mean its not being said. It is unfortunately.
It has nothing to do with Nets fans 'POPPING UP' which will happen with any relocation, obviously. And just because a player says a city is where they want to go... doesn't mean they'll go there (Eric Gordon)

I think a lot of people took the post the wrong way, I'm not really pointing anyone out, or being negative towards Nets fans. I'm really just venting at some of the stupidity that surrounds this issue in my area and on national broadcast.
