Re: So everyone is a Nets fan now?

A Laker Fan being jealous of the "attention" and "hype" that the Nets of all teams are getting? Am I the only one who finds this incredibily hilarious?

Seriously, who spends or even waste time hating on the ****ing Nets!?!?!

The Nets are getting press bc they're moving to Brooklyn and trying to build a team to make that move relevant... no more, no less. Nobody is calling them contenders as is, but the assumption is still that they'll get Howard so speculation is being made as if that move has already happened. But the title of this thread is misleading. If you want to know why there are more Nets FANS popping up, Brooklyn is a large reason. If you want to know about the BUZZ, the expectation of Howard is the reason.
Wwharton as usual being the voice of reason and logic.

I haven't heard anyone all of a sudden say "OMG THE NETS!!! IVE BEEN A FAN SINCE TRAVIS OUTLAW!!!!" but I've heard people(Knick Fan included)say they would follow them and have no problem supporting them or adopting them as a 2nd team behind the Knicks obviously.

God forbid we try to improve team that was a joke for the last 5 years, we get some credit for it and people don't even like that.

And to say no one is saying this is ridiculous. I saw a video on ESPN the other day when referring to Dwight, saying that the Magic shouldn't take the deal with Brooklyn, which involves 1st round picks, because the team already is a top 10 team with the addition of Joe and with Dwight would be a top 5 and thus making the picks useless.
Again, just because people on OS have some sense not to spout off and say NETS 2013 CHAMPS does not mean its not being said. It is unfortunately.
Seems to me that your beef shouldn't be with the Nets then, but moreso the 4 letter channel.

My advice to you: Stop watching it.

I just don't see much in terms of expectations and why they're so huge already. I mean, they haven't even got Howard yet!

It has nothing to do with Nets fans 'POPPING UP' which will happen with any relocation, obviously. And just because a player says a city is where they want to go... doesn't mean they'll go there (Eric Gordon)

I think a lot of people took the post the wrong way, I'm not really pointing anyone out, or being negative towards Nets fans. I'm really just venting at some of the stupidity that surrounds this issue in my area and on national broadcast.
Don't take this the wrong way (tone and internet and all that) but why bring that garbage here then? I didn't see anything like that anywhere but I'll take your word for it if you heard Skip Bayless or some other hack try to move the meter with a stupid comment like that. But there's nothing here to discuss. Nobody here thinks they're contenders without Howard so there really isn't anything to talk about, lol.

It didn't need a new thread just for you to vent about. Could've posted it in the off topic thread and had everyone click the thumbs up button to agree... not really more here than that. I'm not going to lock this up (yet) bc maybe there's more to your thought and I'm not fully understanding or something. But doesn't seem like there's much to see here. We agree with you... welcome to OS where that type of crap is usually drowned out by more sensible people. You'll never need to listen to the idiots on ESPN again.

Nice way to slip your boy Outlaw in, Pack.

So what? Its the Brooklyn Nets. Why would you be mad if they gained fans from Brooklyn or the immediate surrounding area? Sounds like a Knicks fan who is agitated by New Yorkers potentially changing stripes.

          No agitation here sir.

You asked about bandwagon fans which is what I'm addressing.

We're all in the same pot, sharing the same media outlets, sharing everything. It's not like a new team just got created through expansion which would be different. The Nets didn't just appear out of thin air. But some of their fans will.

They can have all the Brooklyn hipsters and whatever Knick fans who change stripes (which if you read my first post...I clearly wasn't talking about them).

I'd bet there's a lot more people in New York rooting for them because they're in Brooklyn than there were when they were in Jersey. What reason did people in Brooklyn have to root for the Nets before? They now have a team in their borough, let alone city, and that will gain them a lot of fans.

In New York the location is not as relevant as it seems.

If people in any borough of NY didn't give a crap about the Nets before (I personally don't know any Nets fans from NY but I have alot friends who are Nets fans who are from NJ) but they do now because they relocated...I think that's funny.

That has nothing to do with what I was saying though. I was talking about people who know nothing about basketball...but whatever.

EDIT: You asked- What reason did they have to root for the Nets before?
Because they were a genuine fan of the team.

What about the fans in OKC? Did they have to like the Sonics before they moved there to be a fan of the team?

                  Totally different man. Wow.

                  You're talking a stone's throw in NY.

You guys do realize that the football teams that NYers (Giants/Jets) root for are not physically located in NY, right?

                  I can't explain this further. I digress.

Easy to say that now because it's July LOL.

But we'll see...if they come into Brooklyn(w/o Duhwight)and they start winning games right off the jump and even make the playoffs, people won't necessarily look at them as the "same, old New Jersey Nets".

Now if they get Duhwight....oh then they'll GET folks attention real fast, no question about it.

Either way is fine with because I'm just happy that my team is no longer the joke of the offseason and actually getting some love for once by people.

                              Same thing with Heat "fans".

"I've been a fan since the Hardaway days!"

Really, who did the Heat play in the playoffs 2 years ago? OH YOU DON'T REMEMBER? Strange...

Such is life. People want to root for winners. I remember when Jalen Rose and Marcus Fizer were leading the charge to the cellar. It wasn't too cool to root for the Bulls then. Now everywhere you turn someones claiming life long fandom. It is what it is.

Same thing is going to happen with the Nets.
