For 1 he was out of shape because of his eye, which I bet threw him off because he had to play with goggles on for the first time. They were like swimming goggles toWashington Redskins

Re: Team USA Men's Olympic Basketball 2012
Recently...I've started to feel the same.
Although the US would undoubtedly lose, part of me would like to see other kids in there. Or at the very least, 2nd and 3rd tier NBA players.
Yes, I know it's in their best interest to put the best team out there.
But these games have not been enjoyable to me.
I feel like I'm watching Heat/Clipper/Laker/Knick/Thunder games depending on which US player has the ball.
I'd like to see guys out there like-
David Lee
Avery Bradley
Brook Lopez
Tyler Hansbrough
Greg Monroe
JJ Redick
Wilson Chandler
Steve Novak
Tony Allen
I wish they fielded the team based on specialists rather than the "best" players.
Have Shooters, Defensive Specialists, Ball Handlers, Rebounders, etc.Last edited by bigeastbumrush; 07-30-2012, 10:21 AM.Comment

Re: Team USA Men's Olympic Basketball 2012
They have to send the best athletes seeing as other countries do
I agree with Ex, for the fact that Coach K is the one who has been running the fastbreak offense ever since Larry Brown lost it back in 04. Even back then LeBron and Wade did it when they were in the game and were successful but Larry Brown kept pulling them out and the team started losing again
The closest you'll get to what you're saying is if Stern implements the 23 and under age limit for NBA Players or whateverComment

They don't have to do anything. As far as I'm concerned...the team they select has much to do with marketing revenue than it does the best players.
I fully understand putting the best team out there.
All I'm saying is that these games have looked more like NBA games than Olympic games to me. It's rather stale to me.
I think a group of 2nd and 3rd tier NBA players can hang with the world's best.
I think the age limit is stupid. I would probably field the team with players from non-playoff teams.
It would give them something to play for and probably give them a confidence boost going into the next year..which is good for competitive balance.
I would also give Coach K the boot and go with D'Antoni.

Re: Team USA Men's Olympic Basketball 2012
I know the games look stale and are boring as crap but as long as Coach K is winning they wont be getting rid of him, and wont make him change.
More than anything we're using speed and athleticism to beat teams moreso than actual team strategy.. and I agree marketing is also apart of it unfortunately.
Im glad Iggy finally got in there... guys on his level could more than do the job, but why should the NBA care about that?Comment

Re: Team USA Men's Olympic Basketball 2012
Said this before, but invite the NCAA winner or best final ranked team, or invite Final Four teams in order from top to bottom, considering the eventual winner may opt out. At least you have an intact team there who has played with each other for a few years.Comment

It would have been nice if they could have spread the games out.. no games today

Re: Team USA Men's Olympic Basketball 2012
I honestly root for the other countries to beat us in the Olympics. I don't really like watching what's basically an NBA All-Star team against mainly NBA role players or worse.NFL: Bills
NBA: Bucks
MLB: Cubs
NCAA: Syracuse
Soccer: USMNT/DC United

Re: Team USA Men's Olympic Basketball 2012
Obviously not to the caliber of talent that the U.S. has, but I think you're stretching it a bit far. Brazil, Argentina, Spain all have really good NBA talent. France, Russia and Lithuania all have role player talent but are still pretty legit.
I don't care either way with the age rule, just because as much as I think the Olympics helps certain players, it definitely hurts other older guys physically for the NBA season.
In any case, I don't know how you guys don't appreciate the amount of talent on one team. It's truly something amazing to watch IMO even though their strategies and playbook are pretty much awful offensively. The athleticism and defense are something to behold, and the fact that so many of these egos can co-exist makes it really intriguing.
I don't think the next USA/Argentina game or the next USA/Spain game will look boring guys. Even the other countries I listed, those games will be intense IMO. Especially when it's a medal round, single elimination.Comment

I don't really like the all star team type of Olympic USA team, but...
...I think if you are an Olympic talented US basketball player then you should be allowed to play. Not fair to guys who come into the league and never get a deserved shot bc they are 24.Chicago Bulls
Chicago Bears
