Argentina plays France before the USA game today. That game should be fun.

Re: Team USA Men's Olympic Basketball 2012
Not really an applicable analogy. The Olympics used to be about amateur athletics globally and because we didn't incorporate the same level of training and programs previously, other countries would dominate us in particular events, especially the USSR in gymnastics. Plus, we couldn't police how other countries were "compensating" their amateur athletes and it was seemingly set up where their amateurs were really their pros. The 1980 Russian hockey team would probably be the most explicit example of this. So they had amateur status because they didn't fit the definition of "professional" at the time, but that became more blurred over time and therefore the Olympic governing body seemed to solve the issue by simply opening the door to any in all athletes. However, in reference to your analogy, in the NFL, NBA, MLB, the teams are businesses jockeying for the best deals and configurations of players in an elite grouping.Comment

Re: Team USA Men's Olympic Basketball 2012
That's all well and good, but his point was you don't root against your team because you're the best. Patriots fans didn't root against Tom Brady when they went 16-0, I didn't root against the Yankees in '09 when we were clearly the best team, etc. The point stands. Just because your team is the best, you don't root against them. If anything, that point is magnified by it being your country that you're rooting for, something you should have an even greater connection to.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Happy for France to taste Olympic victory after they've been away from the games for so long. It's a shame they don't have Noah on their squad.
Argentina refusing to play their bench is really going to be a gamble for them. They're already the oldest team as it is. I think they should go ahead and just let the reserves in and see what happens.Comment

Re: Team USA Men's Olympic Basketball 2012
From an outsiders perspective with me not being from the US I find this wishing the games were closer and suggesting they shouldn't send their best talent ideas really strange.
As someone who was 12 at the time and idolized the original dream team I want to see that sort of combined brilliance and dominance again. I'm all for parity in relation to the nba but the Olympics is only every four years and is a different beast imo.
My boomers started out well today against Spain but were simply outclassed and outsized in the end. It's a shame we don't have Bogut to anchor the middle.Comment
