It is kind of funny how Kareem and Hakeem are basically washes on OS. Kareem has to be the most forgotten/disrespected player, no one ever talks about him or gives him much love.

Kareem = Duncan (They play nothing alike, but just in terms of the respect they deserve as individual ball players IMO)

Kareem put up quietly one of, if not the, greatest career ever.

His longevity has hurt him though I think.

Yeah no love for Kareem.. 6 rings, 6 MVPs, 2 finals MVPs.. Best scoring season was 35ppg best rebounding season at 17.. Has reached 4 blocks in a year multiple times.. Only missed making the all NBA team 2 times from 1969 to 1986.. NBA all time career leader in points, 3rd in blocks, and 4th in rebounds.. Stud!

Given all of the circumstances IMO Jabbar >>>> Russell. Yet I rarely see someone feel that way.

Good point, although he never actually outplayed Wilt he was just smart enough to make Wilt try and do too much and hurt his team..

Also with Russell being even older than Wilt is Wilt is pretty much the only great big man Russell had to face.. Kareem played through the entire 70s and 80s playing against a majority of the greatest big men to ever play..

Also, not wanting to dog Russell but he didn't have the greatest basketball skill set, limited offensively, couldn't really handle the ball.. He was just VERY smart and hustled his butt of and played excellent defense..

I think it's almost a toss up between the 3 Kareem, Russell, Wilt.. It's more of an opinion between those 3 who the best big man ever is, just personal preference..

You go Russell - you get the greatest winner of all time, best leader, and best captain.. Possibly in any sport ever.

Wilt- he has all the records and most astounding individual performances.. Could be the most dominant athlete ever.

Kareem- probably the better basketball player of the 3 as far as his skills go.. A mix between the great stats and the championship winning.. Very long and successful career..

Can't go wrong with any of them IMO

As far as putting Kobe up above Russell and wilt.. Some people don't agree with this way of thinking but the reason I feel Kobe is better is because of the time they played in. I feel like if they played in today's nba, or the late 80's or 90's they wouldn't have nearly as illustrious careers.
Honestly though, they are all so close, so close together in the top ten, that it doesn't really matter where they go in the top ten, we all have the same players in there

Yeah for the most part, I actually put Kobe at 14 and Duncan at 15.. But still the majority of us have pretty much the same 10 guys up there

I never agree with this line of thinking because people fail to see both sides of the coin.

If you put Kobe back then you get:
                              • inferior medical care (his knees are in trouble even with modern medical care)
                              • much worse travelling arrangements (train/bus)
                              • inferior gear (it IS the shoes, to a certain degree)
                              • inferior playing surfaces (ever play on an NBA or high-major DI court? Huge difference in quality to any average gym you walk in to. Much more forgiving on your knees/back too)

To think that he'd be the same player he is today in 1965 is foolish IMO. Advancements in our society are directly related to the advancement of players.

Same goes for Kareem and Russell, they'd be better players if they came along today because of the advantages that weren't around during their playing days.

I don't think you can use playing in the 60s against Wilt and Russell, it doesnt matter when they played what matters is how they dominated who they played agains...Even if they may not produce those numbers now they did then, they were freaks compared to who they payed against, so far and above what Kobe is compared to his competition..

For somebody to be as dominant in today's NBA physically the way Wilt was then you'd have to see somebody with Yao's size run up and down like a JaVale McGee, rebound like Kevin Love, Block shots like Dwight, and score as much as Durant...

Say every team in the NBA was composed of 12 Brian Scalbrines but the Lakers had Kobe.. Imagine how he would dominate then.. That's how dominant guys like Wilt and Russell were

They may not have played in an era where there was as much talent around the league but they were so much better than their competition that you will never see anything like that again..
