Why Did Laker Fans Hate Smush Parker?

Smush Parker was on the Lakers from 2005-2007 if i'm correct? I wikipedia'd his stats and they did not seem bad. Granted, they were Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, or Stephon Marbury numbers, but he didn't seem terrible. His assist could've been up if he was the starting PG, but other than that his field goal percentage is respectable, his PPG is respectable considering he was playing with the 35ppg version of Kobe Bryant.

I can't break down why he sucked as much as some guys on here possibly could but the thing that angered me MOST about Smush was his attitude. I sometimes got the feeling that he thought he was above everyone else. Which isn't saying much coming from a Kobe fan but at least Mr. Bryant has some game to back up his "superiority complex" lol

He was also the WORST gambler on D, I swear every possession he was going for steals and would ROUTINELY allow his man to get by him. He was just so frustrating to watch every night.

I cringed every time he touched the ball and was on edge any time he was in the game because you never knew what stupid crap he would next haha!

Laker fans hate Smush Parker for the most part because the majority of the so called Laker fans these days aren't really Lakers fans at all, they are Kobe fans..

Since the team was so bad during that stretch the "Laker fans" wanted to blame everybody but their beloved Kobe Bryant, who at that point in his career was playing as selfish basketball as anybody I've ever watched..

They weren't going to put any blame on Kobe even though you had LeBron James single handedly carry teams just as bad as the one Kobe was on deep into the playoffs every year and the best record in the league two straight years..and even a few years before AI carried that horrible team all the way to the finals..

Don't blame the role players for not being able to win meaningless regular season games, blame your superstar!..

One man obviously isn't going to win you a ring, but somebody on that level of that caliber should at least get you to the playoffs..

It definitely wasn't the matador defensive mentality, letting everyone he defended breeze by with the greatest of ease. Could've been eating a churro while driving to the hoop.

It wasn't the fact that at one point he overslept and missed the team flight to an away game.

It wasn't the inflated, over confident, attitude when he hadn't done anything in his career to even remotely back it up. Or how he completely trashed Kobe like a salty ex-girlfriend. Or how, after Kobes 81 point game, all he could must up was "we played some great defense".

That darn Kobe, he should have taken Smush Parker (), Kwame Brown (), Luke Walton (), Brian Cook (), and Lamar Odom to another Larry O'Brien trophy. You're right. All of that talent, and it wasn't like they ran into the Phoenix Suns were running one of the most ridiculous offenses with MVP Steve Nash out west. Or that the Spurs were in the middle of their Tim Duncan dynasty.

One man obviously isn't going to win you a ring, but somebody on that level of that caliber should at least get you to the playoffs..

Almost ever Laker fan I know is purely a Kobe fan and anything that goes wrong with the team gets blamed on everybody but him..

Yet he's consistently been one of the best players in the league and still cannot make his teammates around him better, what kind of star is that?.. until he can do that he'll never achieve anything without an all star studded team like he's always had when the team is succeeding..

Lucky for him they just added a two time MVP pg and a top 2 big man in the league.. Maybe he'll win another one this year now that they're again the most stacked team in the world..

I'm not even remotely upset, but thanks for your concern. I think it's silly to say Laker fans are in the wrong for disliking Smush Parker, and use SMUSH as a reason to rip into Kobe. C'mon man.

Unfortunately, you caught the wrong "Laker" fan, and I'm fully aware of Kobe's short comings. But I'm comfortable with what he has accomplished for himself in his career, and for the Lakers, in his time. He is definitely lucky to have the team around him, much like Lebron. Guess how ma- nevermind. Not even going to turn this into a Kobe/Lebron fest.

That's kind of how it works. The most talented team usually wins the championship. Kobe was a big part of the talent that made those teams the most talented in the league.

So...that's not how the Celtics, Spurs, Lakers, and Miami won a championship? How bout the Pistons and Mavericks? You know what separated them? They had an actual bench....which plays into the talent part.

I mean, cool, it's not like Nash (during his 2 year MVP run no less.....), Amare (Prime "I'm going to dunk everything off of a pick and roll" Amare), Shawn Marion (Prime Shawn Marion. The same dude that was averaging 20 PPG, 11.5 RPG, 1.5 BPG and 2.0 SPG playing alongside Nash) , Boris Diaw (Who was the Lamar Odom of the team), and Raja Bell (Specifically assaigned to irrate the ever lovin mess out of Kobe) wasn't impeding Kobe's progress by continually meeting him in the first round or anything....

Yep, Lamar Odom sure was a 1st team defender capable of guarding Amare. Yep, Smush Parker sure was putting the clamps on Steve Nash. Of course Luke Walton was winning his matchup against Shawn Marion. No doubt about that.

Yep, it's not like the Suns didn't have the superior team during that era....
