Nah, it was a question general, lol. I've heard people throw his name out there in regards to Coaching Vacancies do I've just been curious as to where all the praise/hype for him has come from.#RespectTheCultureComment

I think it has to do with him being a beloved Laker player and more importantly having learned from Phil Jackson.
Also if Shaw failed, I personally think more people would just say it didn't work. He learned from the best and just isn't the best. They would move on and question the hiring much less than the Brown hiring.

Re: 10/30 - 11/7 Games Discussion Thread.
I think it's obvious GMs aren't necessarily very good at recognizing coaching talent.
And I'm not saying I am either because I think recognizing coaching talent is probably one of the hardest things to do in professional sports. There are far too many intangibles that actually matter in coaching than in actually playing the game.
You sometimes get these guys that are strategic brainiacs as assistants or in interviews (ie Eric Musselman) and for other reasons, it doesn't translate to success.
Then you might get the complete opposite of that guy that's the innovative, free-spirited player's coach and they can't make the proper adjustments to succeed.
But you can also name guys that have succeeded under those parameters. You just never know until you know.
I do know that Mike Brown is a bum."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Hey, there's a guy in Chicago that had a similar problem. (I know I'm reaching hard here to compare him to that, but it's true. It did happen).#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: 10/30 - 11/7 Games Discussion Thread.
He went through years of being mentioned as a head coach candidate and was never given a job.
I remember him being regarded as an assistant that could be a good head coach as far back as 2003 or 2004. But maybe that's because I'm a Knicks fan and they liked the idea of bringing him back."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Just like Thibs, I think Shaw definitely deserves a shot. You'll never know what he can really do until he gets his opportunity. Did anyone firmly believe Thibs would transcend the Bulls to 60 win status in one season? I know I sure didn't.
Plus at the time, Shaw had earned great respect in that locker room. At least enough to be given a chance.Last edited by JODYE; 11-09-2012, 04:42 PM.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Thibs affected more than one lockerroom
He also was the main defensive reason Boston won
Not just another assistant
Shaw is no different than any other assistant out there
Its not like was Tex winters...shoot Jim Clemons deserves a shot before him if that's the case
