If Kobe and Jim Buss go out of their way to mention your name, that isn't a good thing no matter what their words are.
Guys have been on the hot seat before in sports and gotten a vote of confidence and lasted at least a few weeks before getting canned because they couldn't turn it around. Getting that vote and then getting fired the very next day without another game being played beforehand at least? That's a new one I believe lol.

True, but like I said, ultimately you have to ask yourself if you see them winning with Brown at the helm. No matter what happens in two weeks or two months, their end goal is not to have a great regular season or to win a round or two in the playoffs-- it's to win it all.

I get what some of you are saying in terms of it being way too soon, if anything, should have canned him before training camp.. but ultimately I really wonder if Brown is suited to be a head coach. The timing of this all is not good, that's apparent.

Its different in LA though. You have no idea how rotten the fans are out here, I dont care how bad yall think other fans can be lol

Well there are just too many bandwagon fans on the cart to count to add to that

I think this season is a wash for Lakers. I don't I've ever seen a team in the NBA fired their coach in the first 5 games and have anything to show for it later on. I don't think Phil is coming back. If they hire Pringles It won't fix one of the real problems which is the defense, not to mention they have to training camp to help switching to a different offense.

This is my point. Pretty much everybody here didn't see them winning with Brown at the helm when they hired him, but they moved forward. Nobody saw them winning with him when they lost in the playoffs last year, but they moved foward. They didn't win a game in the preseason and they moved forward. Doing this the way they did doesn't help anything because it makes them look bad and ontop of things they threw Kobe under the bus because this comes directly after the most famous Death Stare of all time now. This move should've been made in the offseason.

They'll still make the playoffs. How far will they go is the next question.

Good thing about the season being this long is that you can recover from early season slumps, if you have the talent. That's been proven plenty of times throughout the years.

Totally agree!!! I think the move is a little too fast. I would of waited at least 2-3 more games before firing him.

early season slump is one thing, but an if they go ahead and change the entire philosophy of the team? I don't think you can recover for something like that. Yeah they'll make the playoffs but probably not very far.....

This was as of 2 days ago.

After watching the Los Angeles Lakers drop to 1-4 on the season with a 95-86 loss to the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night, Lakers executive vice president Jim Buss was not a happy man.

Buss said he has been gauging player reaction to the Lakers' new Princeton offense, Brown and how they're dealing with the slow start by reading their public comments and talking to them directly. On Tuesday afternoon, he went down from his office to the court during practice to take their temperature, and he said he found things to be rather calm.

"Kobe [Bryant] and I have a relationship where he can just look at me and say, 'Everything's cool,'" Buss said. "So yesterday during practice, I gave Kobe a quick glance, and everything was cool."
                        So what happened?

I guess Chucky Atkins was right after all....

Not to mention that Durant was quoted saying this...

“Kobe called that a month before it happened,” Kevin Durant told Yahoo! Sports. “I didn’t believe him. He was just like, ‘We are going to have Dwight. We are going to have Steve Nash.’ He just talks a lot of trash, jokes and laughs. But he said it. I don’t think anyone paid attention to it but me and him. He said it and it happened. And they got better, a lot better.”
So no one should be surprised what happened after the death stare...

Trusting what owners/GM's say about a coach's job security is probably rarely a smart thing to do in any sport.
