I'll take prime Lebron (how high is that ceiling?!) over prime Kobe.

I'll take LeBron any day, much more rounded player, and all you have to do is watch highlights from when he was in Cleveland to realise 1 guy essentially got the team a #1 seed and a 66-16 winning record, you can't deny that.

Only reason I come in these threads is to get a good laugh from the fallacious Alex Brady 1-10 ranking system.

LeBron better handle, equivalent post game and more creative than Kobe in his prime? Uhh...no.

              That said...give me Bron.

LeBron does indeed have a stronger grip on the rock when handling in traffic. While, Kobe's relatively small hands slightly impede his ball-handling in traffic.

Kobe had more 'stuff' in the post. LeBron is much stronger and has proven to be unstoppable on those cross baseline screens.

Kobe's middle game is more creative. Although LeBron has developed a wider array of floaters and flippers. Even though I gave both players a '10', Kobe still gets the slightest of edges here.

In the end (despite the scorecard), my pick would be Kobe. He consistently proved to be a game-winning force on both ends of the court deep into the playoffs.

Just way too many variables to sum things up like that. Lebron is unstoppable on cross baseline screens? How is that post game? He knows how to come off a shoulder and hit a layup? And if you put both in a room with a rack of balls, the eyeball test says Kobe would make more than Bron from mid range to 3... but he refuses to stop taking contested jumpers which brings the numbers everyone wants to point to closer together. In the same sense, Lebron's lack of killer instinct is rightfully held against him in some cases, but in other cases it's also rightfully praised for getting the entire team involved.

I like how you compartmentalize things bc it's great to force organization in these type of evaluations, but unfortunately adding subjective numbers to these elements and then forming a calculation doesn't work... not unless there is a way to account for hundreds of variables... that would make it more reliable.

And not a knock on you AB, as I think these comparisons are a train wreck to begin with, so props to you for trying to play the crossing guard.

I always find it odd that these two are compared so often. What do they have in common to demand so many damn comparison discussions other than their popularity?

Just cause they are 2 of the best players ever. They get compared because a lot of Kobe fans think he will surpass Jordan as the unquestioned "best ever", while some fans think he has already beat jordan. LeBron is probably the most scrutinized athlete ever. The Jordan comparisons are what link Kobe and LeBron. LeBron fans, along with Larry bird, Charles Barkley, phil Jackson, and Scottie pippen think that LeBron can surpass Kobe and Jordan when all is said and done.

The hype for LeBron was just crazy. But its not like he was telling ESPN to air his high school games or call him the next jordan.

And though you haven't been here that long, the same lines (truth, stretched truth, completely incorrect, etc from all fronts) have been recycled for years. It all goes in the same circles and at the base, like king said, they aren't even close to the same player so there is no comparison. One is a guard and the other is a forward. One has mastered the art of scoring in many different ways while the other strives to be a complete player. It can go on and on but the only thing they have in common is they are both great basketball players. There is no logical comparison of anything else. They have different strengths and weaknesses, different responsibilities, different paths to greatness, different teammates, are in different places in their career, etc, etc. Just gets a bit tiring seeing another attempt to put the square peg in a round hole followed by pages of people explaining why the peg won't fit.

This is all true, but I don't think anybody here is actually trying to compare the two.. It's simply asking which player is better. You don't have to be comparable to be better or worse than another player.

Yeah they approach the game differently. That's why we compare and see who is more successful. Just cause there is a 2 inch height difference doesn't mean we can't compare the players.

Read my original post, I posted facts that a lot of people forget or don't mention when talking about Kobe. Fact he demanded to be traded. Fact he called his teammate a bum. I just want people to see and comprehend the other side of the Kobe story. Also so far people are being relatively respectful so if we continue a mature debate there is no need for mod to close it.

Regardless of what either player has done or said, or how either guy approaches the game, or who they have played with, or their play styles...

Regardless of all that, and throw out any comparisons, LeBron is the best player I have watched since Michael Jordan.

Everyone is jocking Lebron now, but honestly has his game really changed from the time he came to the league till now. Yeah he may be a little more focus and his jump shot got a little better, but his play style is still the same. All he has relies on is his size, speed and power, take those things away and i don't see what he really has. Kobe doesn't rely on physical attributes to dominate. hell he is 35yrs old and still getting triple doubles, not because he is big strong and fast but because he has that talent.
