Sorry I can't believe that for one second. When I look for tickets to a game I usually look for teams/players I want to watch. I think someone said it earlier. If this was the bobcats/washington would people make a big deal. Probably not. But I pay to watch the players.

Could anyone imagine Michael Jordan saying he wanted to rest one of the games during his last years as a basketball player? It's the samething. I understand where Pop is coming from as a basketball coach. But like I said before this is a business. Star power is what drive ticket prices through the roof. NBA league pass memeber pay every season. Just everything what the NBA stands for on hold. And like I said I understand where Pops is coming from. But he should of rested them the night before. Or the games before. But he must of spoken to te owner first. Or maybe Pops is the boss like that. Because he knows what's going on lol

Re: San Antonio Spurs to Receive Sanctions for Resting Players

Im not following the "We paid to see the stars" thinking here.

If Bonner was benched for the game and sent home to rest would you say a peep? Remember you pay to see the San Antonio Spurs, the Miami Heat, the Brooklyn Nets, etc etc. You have been cheated out of nothing. Pop managing his team's rest is exponentially more important than a nationally televised planned blowout.

Next thing they're gonna start sanctioning teams for not making their star score x points. "I cant believe I spent 100 bucks and Carmelo only got 5 rebounds. Im furious David Stern!!!"

Totally agree.... Stern messing with things he shouldn't be touching. But like I said. I hope people see both sides of the coin here. Both sides are wrong at the end of the day. Stern/Pop could of handled things way differently.

Exactly. The game was competitive until the last seconds. WTF people complaining for?

Pop is the coach and if there isn't a rule then WTF is Stern on other than promoting some type of package for Miami? Because lets face SA doesn't get any media love.

I don't think what Pop did was wrong...but I can't sit here and act like I don't understand the fans POV, even Pop mentioned that he understands that.

I was just thinking about it last night, in '08 I went in on court side seats with a buddy to see the Celtics big 3 play the Bobcats and none of them played...needless to say we left at Halftime and were pissed.

But hey, it is what it is...

EDIT: LOL @ a 50+ post Spur thread

Re: San Antonio Spurs to Receive Sanctions for Resting Players

Pop is not in the wrong for doing what's best for HIS team. He doesn't owe us a single thing so if he wants to rest his players then by all means do it.

Fans sometimes need to stop with this whole entitlement thing, especially when it comes to Sports.

It is a huge joke. But guys I know I speak in basketball term most of the time on here. But this is one of those situation I lean towards the money side of things. Too much money is changing hands here.

Most of us here didn't pay for tickets for last nights game. Could you imagine if you did? Could you imagine if this starts a trend? Coaches start resting players after/during long road trips. You lose money and (more importantly) interest that way. The NBA is a product. What Pop did was great in terms of basketball (its a long *** season and the oldest team in the league). But a national televisied game with a superstar team vs a team missing 4 starters. And worst find out an hour before the game. Man that sucks win or lose.

I don't follow teams or players so I probably wouldn't be as pissed. I understand the fans perspective. Yes, it sucks, but **** happens. The team shouldn't be penalized for doing what is best for them and their players.

If more coaches rested players after long road trips, what argument would you have against the practice?

Pop, and I hope my team's coach, isnt concerned about money changing hands. Guy has won how many championships now? He will get the benefit of the doubt from me until he retires.

And yes you guys are right. Maybe I'm wording it wrong. Pop isn't to blame because he is doing the best for his team. And no rule stops him from resting his players. But personally.... I would of tanked the orlando game. Not the national televised vs Heat game.

But you guys do see what I'm talking about outside of the bastketball. I mean luckily the game turned out to be a really good basketball overall. But could you imagine if the Spurs would of been blown out in the first half. People would be even more pissed. Thank god it was a good game lol

I couldn't imagine paying that much money for courtside sits and then the players I wanted to see didn't suit up. I think anyone would be mad.

I'm in agreement here. I remember going to a Bulls-Wizards game last year and Rose was held out due to a sore foot. I was there with a friend and we didn't stay there very long.

It is Popovich's team so he can do what he wants and there shouldn't be any punishment for resting his players. I do understand both sides of the coin here.

If I went to last nights game Id be shocked at how good a coach Pop really was.

It wasnt exactly a game to be upset about as a fan Jeebs.

But again, if every coach chose to rest their players after a gauntlet stretch of road games, what arguement would you or the league really have? Would you be upset if numbers 7-12 werent put into the game? I mean Im sure some fan somewhere in an arena would love to see Scalabrine play, but he didnt play every game.

Would it be okay of the starters played idk 10 mins and sat the rest? How about 5 mins? Maybe 30 seconds? What is an acceptable number here?
