But think about what this all boils down to anyways... This is a non-conference road game. This has VERY little effect on the Spurs record, playoff seeding, season success, etc etc.. So why is it a problem? It's not like its a big time division or even a conference game, this has little significance to the Spurs.

SMH
@IanBegley: NBA fines Spurs $250,000 for their decision to send four players home prior to the Spurs' Nov. 29 game in Miami.@HowardBeckNYT: Stern concludes statement by saying that the Spurs "did a disservice to the league and our fans."
"Best interests of the league". It's contradictory.Comment

Re: San Antonio Spurs to Receive Sanctions for Resting Players
Can't be too mad about a fine. Stern needs to go slap the schedule maker in the face now.
Said NBA commissioner David Stern in a statement: "The result here is dictated by the totality of the facts in this case. The Spurs decided to make four of their top players unavailable for an early-season game that was the team's only regular-season visit to Miami. The team also did this without informing the Heat, the media, or the league office in a timely way. Under these circumstances, I have concluded that the Spurs did a disservice to the league and our fans."Comment

Re: San Antonio Spurs to Receive Sanctions for Resting Players
All of ESPN is questioning why the spurs didn't sit players against Orlando and it's despicable. Why are the Miami Heat bandwagoners
more important than the Orlando fans? If Stern wanted to bring the league to the forefront he'd start to market and push teams as a whole instead of just one player.Comment

I'd love it if the teams met in the Finals.

Re: San Antonio Spurs to Receive Sanctions for Resting Players
250,000? Unbelievable.
Well whatever. From the statement, it looks like it wouldn't have been an issue if he had informed everyone beforehand, so as long as he does so, they should be fine. Still bogus, but whatevs.Originally posted by Kaiser Wilhelmthere should not be ties occurring in the NFL except when neither team wins the game.Comment

Re: San Antonio Spurs to Receive Sanctions for Resting Players
This sets a pretty scary precedent. With this fine Stern is basically showing that he can set lineups and minute distribution if he chooses to do so.
**** him and the league. The game was really entertaining anyway.Comment

Ron Gardenhire is notorious for putting together embarrassing getaway-day lineups where the entire bench will start at the same time, sitting the best players in the process. It's been driving Twins fans nuts for years.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

To someone who knows the economics of the situation:
Who pays the fine? The owner? Coach? Players? Mixture of all three?
Where does the money go? Stern's wallet? Bonuses for the board of directors?Originally posted by Kaiser Wilhelmthere should not be ties occurring in the NFL except when neither team wins the game.Comment
