"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: 12/3 - 12/9 Game Discussion Thread
No it isn't, but that's my point. When you have rings it's not exactly easy to convince that person that his way is not the best way to play. Kobe's the type of guy to tell you he has one more ring than either Duncan or Shaq.
Please don't compare Robert Horry or Fisher to Kobe Bryant either.
It's not a matter of excuses. It's a matter of him being stubborn and saying 'look, I've been in the league for a long time, I've got hardware, aint nobody gonna tell me how to play this game'. Simple.
Its no comparison but Horry and Fisher were on the same teams, won rings on the same team, Horry has more than Kobe, won with the best just like him, and I still dont see any other player in history who has taken on this kind of an insecurity ego trip
Kobe has been jacking up bad shots since Shaq was there, its not about the rings, all of this chucking is and always will be about him. That's what the truth is.Comment

Re: 12/3 - 12/9 Game Discussion Thread
And the sad thing is, he's always going to point to his right hand with a ring on each finger and say "shut up". It's a shame really, what type of player Kobe is compared to what he could have been. However again, by the same token, he has jewelry and even when people point to Shaq or Pau or Phil for his jewelry, facts still remain that he'll go down as one of the best to ever play. That's his ace in the hole to shut us up on how he plays. It's a shame.
Anywho, Pau Gasol was definitely a beast for three years. 2007-2010, the years LA made finals appearances. He was a beast in the paint and on the boards. Don't forget about those years Pack. He played like that because he was the center and only big man on the floor. When Andrew came back healthy in 2010-2011 season is when he started playing shy. It's been like that ever since now with Dwight too. He hasn't quite figured out how to best utilize a twin tower.
On the flipside, Kobe and everyone else needs to help him figure it out instead of taking shots at him.
As for the bolded part, honestly that's how alot of athletes are. They have the mentality that because they've won more than they've lost throughout their career, then of course they're going to believe that they haven't done anything wrong. It's not just like that in Basketball, it's like that in any sport. Brett Favre is a prime example of this in that he's thrown the most touchdowns but has also thrown the most interceptions yet he'll tell you that he didn't do nothing wrong and he has the accolades to back that up.#RespectTheCultureComment

Oh I haven't forgotten about those years. I'm just saying that the "soft" perception is still hanging over him and with the whole "Kobe calling him out" deal and Pau not saying nothing back to Kobe, then you see why those questions about Gasol's toughness pop back up.

and again, throwing interceptions, or jacking up shots at your teams demise wasn't the reason you won anything so that reasoning is faulty and its not a license to do what you wanna do.
Kobe has the Lakers by the sack from behind, thats why he's doing what he wants to. Everybody scared and wont say nothing because they know he'll throw them under the bus. That's what's really pathetic.. can't wait to see what they do when its life after kobeComment

Never said it was but again from an Athlete's perspective, that's how they're going to think. Of course you're going to have your exceptions but it's also naive to think that athletes don't have that mindset.
As for your second point, what star player doesn't have their franchise by the nuts? It's worse in the NBA because the players now have so MUCH pull that they can get away with whatever because they know their team won't do anything. Does that suck? Damn right it does, but unfortunately that's the new world of the NBA where the players have all the control.
What Kobe is doing with him running things in that organization or no different than what any other star player has done(other than Duncan). Franchise/Star players are ALWAYS going to have their teams by the nuts. And when Kobe leaves and if the Lakers resign Dwight, he'll be the next one that'll be flexing his muscles around the franchise because he knows that Ownership won't do a damn thing to him.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: 12/3 - 12/9 Game Discussion Thread
so when kobe calls pau out in the publicly. its a problem. he's the worst teammate.
but when kobe comes out in support of pau publicly (and he's the only person who ever does) then nobody says anything. which he recently did btw. or last yr when kobe called out management 4 Fn wit pau everybodys ok wit that tho.
Amid rising pressure and growing trade speculation smothering the ailing Pau Gasol, Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant offered his strongest public support to date to back the Spaniard with whom he has won two NBA championships.
its not about whats ok and whats not ok. its the fact that please present the entire story. the calling out and also the supporting and not just the 1 because kobe does both wit pau.
besides i see this alil different than most of you tho. kobe and pau are boys, been through alot together, won championships together. so kobe feels they have that type of relationship wher he can say certain things to pau. like the article says he and pau had a very long chat.
but heres what i think it really is. kobe called out pau, in order to eventually get around to calling out dwight. but since he really doesnt know how dwight will respond yet (if he'll sulk or if he'll accept the challenge) he's binding his time.
again coming out in public about gasol to me is about bigger fish to fry. going after dwight over a number of issues. you see kobe is the only 1 in the organization who's not behonden to dwight. he's the only person in the organization who not worried about dwight leaving in the offseason.
and dwight needs to be called out for a few things as of lately. its another reason why mike.d is not the right coach, because he doesnt have the clout it takes to step to dwight, because he doesnt wanna piss dwight off. ownership wont call him out either 4 the same reasons.
pop would been found someway to sit dwight 4 period of the 4th qtr and everybody knows it, plus dwight would come out and say he was ok with it afterwards.
so again mark my words, coming at gasol was about eventually making his way to calling out dwight for not playing like the most dominate big in the league.

Duncan and all the rest of the athletes in the world don't do what you see here all the time.
Come on man really?
Alright
Sorry man, I'm going to go ahead and focus on the games tonight which I've forgotten who's on deck.Comment

It's not all about rings? Oh really? Alright, I'm sure a good majority of athletes will disagree with you.
My point being is that even with his obvious shortcomings, he has his reasons to not change his ways. When you have so much success doing things your way, it's not exactly a snap of the finger to turn into another type of player. My point being is that when you tell him 'a leopard can't change his spots', Kobe will simply point to his accomplishments to tell you 'shut up'. It's hard to argue with that, honestly. Even though I've disliked what type of player he's been for the majority of his career, it's hard to really tell him anything. Let alone his organization, who, has made a ton on top of tons of dollars off him. Obviously he has the org by the nuts, when you win five rings and put the franchise in a position to get a billion dollar cable deal? You act like that is surprising?Comment

Horry and Fisher aren't all-time players. So you can stop right there. There is no point in mentioning Steve Kerr, Horry or Fisher or any other role player to Bryant.

If its not such a snap to just change then he needs to get off of tv telling Pau to adjust lol
Kobe can say shut up all he wants, and he can chuck up all the shots he wants too..
The results aren't net positive for his team... so go right aheadComment

But hey, if YOU want to believe that stuff like this doesn't happen with any other franchise player then fine. I'll continue to live in the real world and know that stuff like happens and has been the case the for years. It may not be the case for EVERY SINGLE athlete in the world, but it certainly happens more than anyone likes to believe.#RespectTheCultureComment
