    2012/13 MVP

Is LeBron about to win his 4th MVP?

His PPG is down to 25, but his rebounding is at 9.1 and seems to be going up, this guy keeps getting better in other areas, he's ridiculous. His FG%, rebounds, and assists are all higher than Durants, and his minutes are lower..

Durant is again scoring slightly more, but in reality the only thing keeping LeBrons scoring below his is a few missed free-throws...

So, LeBron for 4th MVP this season? What do you guys think?

Maybe Durant wins his first? Melo wins for the much improved play of the Knicks, Kobe wins for reaching 30,000 and continuing his scoring dominance?

I know it's far too early to tell, just wanted to hear some opinions.

It's LeBron until a team surpasses the Heat with far and away a better record.

Here's what I think what causes Lebron to NOT win the MVP award.
      1.Injury
2.OKC finishes with a significantly better record+Durant puts up huge numbers
      3.Voter Fatigue
4.The Heat somehow finish with under 48-ish wins+Lebron has a down year.

#2, #3 are the main reasons I started this thread. I don't see OKC finishing with a largely better record because I think they'll both be up at the very top if not #1 and #2 at the end of the season.

But voter fatigue. You think that will play into the outcome this season? Also noting LeBron hasn't really had that WOW eye popping game yet this year..

But when it comes to "MVP" I don't see anybody even close to as valuable as him. I know those other guys are great players, but as for the value factor, LeBron leads his team in points, rebounds, assists, 3rd in steals, 2nd in blocks, 2nd in FG%, arguably most versatile player in the league... it's just hard to find somebody else that can give that much to a team..

Do you feel there is any outside chance of somebody other than LeBron or KD winning?

I can see Durant getting first, I see his rebounds getting up to about 9 he's on pace to be apart of the 50/40/90 club, he's scoring 26 points on just 16 shots something like 64.5 TS% and he's actually been a better defender(iso and closing out) than Lebron this season plus he's averaging more blocks and steals than Lebron but I do think Lebron is coasting right now to perserve energy and will turn it on after all-star break

As for anyone else eh, If NY wins like 60 games I can see Melo getting it or if LA gets it turned around and gets a top 3 seed I can see them maybe forcing it to Kobe

Voter fatigue just might be the reason MJ doesn't have more MVP awards. It MIGHT be the reason Tim Tebow doesn't have 3 heisman trophies. If Melo somehow put's up 30/7/4/2/.5 or Kobe just posting up similar numbers. I don't think there's a chance neither LBJ or KD gets the MVP barring some sort of catastrophe. Or Voter Fatigue.

Kobe if Metta's 72-win prediction holds up.

              Nah.

I do not at all think Durant is playing better defense than LeBron. That being said I do like Durant and I think he's doing everything worthy of winning an MVP award.. It's just really unfortunate LeBron is in his way..

I'm a LeBron fan so of course I'm fine with that, I just also like and respect Durant and it sucks for him really having LeBron in his way..

I think voter fatigue is absolutely the reason Jordan doesn't have more MVPs.. That was my main reason for this thread, wondering if that will happen again, this time with LeBron.

LeBron for all the obvious reasons. He's still the best overall player in the game. With Durant second, not very close either.

                    3rd is Melo, to me.

Kevin Durant will end up being the modern day Karl Malone.

I agree with this. I also think if a team makes a big enough turnaround from last season they should have a Coach of the Year and an MVP on their hands. The Bobcats, Grizzlies, and Nets seem to be the teams that are able to have such a turnaround now. So the likes of Kemba, Gaslo/Z-bo/Gay, D-Will could be in the conversation come the end of the season.

That being said it is still Stern's NBA so he might not allow that to happen.

Out of who you mentioned I would say Z-Bo is most likely.. No way in hell would Kemba or Gasol have any chance at the MVP race.

I really like Gasol's game and the way the Grizz are playing. But there is just no way a big man who averages only 7boards per game, or a player who is a 3rd option on offense can win MVP..

ZBo is probably 4th to me. With CP3 being 5th.

ZBo is playing so well that Gasol's stats are going down. Dude is a beast.

I won't even get into what is wrong with this comment..

anyway, I would love to see Durant win it, simply because he deserves one or two in his career. Malone was never, at any point, one of the 5 best players in the league, like Durant is now.

That said, I feel like it's LeBron's to lose for the next 5+ years just because of how well known he is (negatively and positively), where he plays (Miami is much more polarizing than OKC), and his team will usually have a better record because he has better talent around him.

I do think Durant has closed the gap between him and LeBron. He's rebounding at a great rate, his defense has improved by leaps and bounds in the past 2 years, and he's hitting a higher percentage of his shots than most perimeter players who lead the league in scoring (aside from Jordan & LeBron)
