    Re: 2012/13 MVP

I would vote for CP3 over Durant.
I really like Durant, but CP3 is just out of this world.

Yeah if the Clippers keep up all this winning I could see him winning as well.

I love CP3. Out of all the other MVP candidates (besides LeBron) he is probably my favorite player..

But 17 and 9 just aren't MVP numbers.

Especially when the point guard with the better record is averaging 22 and 9 and 2 more boards per game.

Also considering that after CP3's big game tonight Westbrook still had 24/5/8 with 25.4EFF to Paul's 22/3/8 with 24.8EFF - over the past 5 games

It will be a damn shame if Westbrook is still not on NBA.com's top 10 race to the MVP list after this week.

Say what you want about Westbrook in the past but the guy has been absolutely balling lately. And over the past few weeks has been playing just as good as Chris Paul.

Do I think Westbrook is worthy of winning the MVP? No I don't. But if Chris Paul can be considered first, second, or even third(NBA.com has him 3rd) there is NO damn reason for Westbrook to be out of the top 10..

I love Durant but his golden boy status is starting to get ridiculous.. People are completely forgetting their is another superstar level player on that team. I'd like to see Durant have the best record in the entire league without Westbrook.

If there was a metric that I think that could come close to approximating MVP candidates, it would be Win Shares. CP3 ranked 3rd in WS according to basketball reference (and 1st when you look at it per minute).

With that said, the people who vote on MVP are probably more likely to look at the statline you brought up, than the metrics I brought up. I really want to see CP3 win it just because I'm a fan, but I know it will most likely fall to either Lebron or Durant.

As far as westbrook goes, I think it's perceived that he's still in durant's shadow and as long as that's the case, he's not even on the radar. He might get some votes, but he'll be down there with people like Steph Curry. The reality is Westbrook is playing amazing and I really would like to see him in a situations where he is the #1, but until that day happens....

                Re: 2012/13 MVP

Welp. I look at Westbrook's numbers and say "He's having an amazing year". Then I look at the shot percentage which is 41.5% and 36% from 3 (which is very good...for Westbrook). And I frown. Then I look at number of shots taken. Which is 18.4.

Then I stroll on over to Durant stat line and double take. Averaging over 28 PPG, 7 Reb, and 4 APG while shooting 50,40, and 90% line. All while shooting 17.9 shots per game.

Now, a thought crossed my mind. Maybe Westbrook's not getting any calls? Welp, he's shooting the same amount of Free-throws per game as last year so while that may have some impact it's much more likely that his touch at the rim has been abysmal this year. And when you're an attacking guard like Westbrook and you have no touch? Those shooting numbers are Jerry Stackhouse-ish.

Still, I'd have him over Steph Curry (who's shooting around the same FG% actually) in terms of MVP voting. He'd definitely be top 5.

I could actually see Harden sneak himself into the discussion if the Rockets make the playoffs.

FG% is misleading. When you account for the 3's and the FT's, Curry is a much more efficient scorer than Westbrook....by far. Not enough to sway your MVP vote, but we're still talking about bottom of the barrel here anyway.

I don't actually think Westbrook deserves the MVP.. I just think it would be awfully hard to go with Paul after seeing all of that. For me anyways

What really got me frustrated about it is the fact that NBA.com doesn't have Westbrook in the entire top 10.. Actually there is a list called "The Next Five" and he isn't even on that!

So CP3 is actually 3rd while Westbrook isn't considered in the top 15? That's just flat out disrespectful.

I'm not saying he deserves it over CP3.. If I had to pick one of the two I would choose Paul for the award by a decent margin. I just think Westbrook isn't respected nearly as much as he should be for what he's doing, and I don't think Paul can win the award when a PG has numbers that you could argue are just as good and more wins.

Also looking at the PRF numbers (points responsible for)

Westbrook is at 39 (3rd in the league)
                      Durant at 36.5
                      Paul at 35.3

Just another area Westbrook is performing well enough in to deserve a little more recognition.

                        Westbrook...MVP...? LMFAOOOOOOO ahahahahhaha

                        OKAY.

Guy's having a good year for his standards, but if he recieves any MVP votes, I'll have lost all hope in the people that decide the award from here on out.

So he doesn't deserve to be mentioned on NBA.com's top 10 for the MVP list?

I think Lebron will end up winning it again. Especially if Miami can get the best record.
