Re: Durant donates $1 Million to help Moore tornado victims

Okay. The hometown thing is different. What I meant to say was finding examples of players helping after disasters. Were the Knicks and Nets helping after Sandy? No, they were busy playing a game. Things like that.

Also, Blake Griffin's bowling event just so happened to be in Moore, OK, but before the tornado obviously.

Don't backtrack. The original intent of that post was "Why don't more NBA players help out in the community".

And a number of reasons why the Nets at least did not help is that they were trapped themselves after the event. http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/netsbl...rRk3Q3K#axzz2U

Or the organization itself helped donate: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...sandy/1690351/

As far as athletes chipping in for disasters disasters are usually region specific unless it completely wrecks a major metropolitan city infrastructure like, say, Katrina.

NBA players are no different than anyone else. Just like the average person does nothing but send prayers out when a city THAT'S NOT THIERS gets hit by a disaster/hurricane you expect those same people (that are now NBA players who's only difference is more money) to do any differently? This ties into the whole holding athletes on a pedestal thing we need to do away with. Unless you yourself would do differently I don't know why you would hold another being to a higher standard than you hold to yourself (speaking in general).

I apologize DukeC for the "wish more players", I do know of players giving back to their community, amongst the donations. I believe I was moreso speaking on a tradgey of this magnitude after a disaster moreso like this one. Maybe the fact the donations and relief efforts aren't mentioned by news outlets make me believe it doesn't happen, whether the players wish to remain private about it (wouldn't be sure why) or whether ESPN just wants to throw it in my face that Brees donates 1 million for Hurricane Sandy so I can root for the guy.

I remember years ago, when some of the top players came out and said they would donate a thousand dollars for each point they scored, was that Katrina? I can't remember... Why not do that?

I'm not holding them to a higher standard. That's exactly what I would do. In fact, I would probably do more. If I was an athlete playing in the metropolitan New York area, I would donate money for relief and even go out, tour the damage, and see the devastation myself. If I wasn't an athlete, I would do the same thing, but just give less money.

Hate to sound harsh but who cares what you would do if you had what another man has? Seriously, where are you going with this? Athletes and many others with the means to do so are charitable beyond belief and don't need to run to the media to make sure you know every little thing they do. Nothing with the ones who are public and nothing wrong with the ones who aren't. And honestly, nothing wrong with the ones who aren't as generous either. There is no reason anyone should be telling someone else how to spend their money.

But the blanket statement that NBA players/athletes in general/people with lots of money don't do enough is ridiculous unless you have access to exactly what these people are spending, rather than just making a judgement on what the media is reporting or what pics pop up on twitter and instagram.

Okay, thanks for the clarification. That's not sarcasm either.

I'm pretty sure this is where DukeC is coming from too. It's kind of hard to say it without coming across as harsh so apologies for that.

Do these posts count in the KD can do no wrong and nobody get's bad treatment but LeBron debate? Serious question.

My answer to that is LeBron is still trying to win people over after The Decision. KD hasn't had a rep altering decision, or at least has handled them the right way.

Why are we even comparing KD to anyone else? Can we not just leave it at KD being a charitable human being and caring about the community he plays for?
