GP doesn't sit out at the end of games.

    Gary
    Fisher/Rush
    Kobe
    Walton/Grant
    Shaq

That's the end of a close game line-up for the Lakers.

quietly the lakers are becoming a deep team with the minutes they give their youngs guys

now im not staying deep as in how the kings have been over the last few years...im talking about interchangable parts where guys can play mutiple positions

I love GP. Have done since day one. Was shattered to see him sign with LA.

Not only because I lost a bit of respect for him and I hate LA...but also because I couldn't see it working out.

In a lot of ways, he's wasted this year. If he gets a ring, fine. But that will be tainted anyway as he'll always been seen as just jumping on and collecting it, not contributing.

Basketball wise...GP's strenghts have always been dominanting the ball, defense and a superior PG post game.

The triangle doesn't have a dominant ball handler and has theres not much post game for a PG with Shaq and Kobe (and Karl eventually) getting any post plays first.

Add to this the simple fact that, played properly and with KB always getting the ball down the stretch...the triangle needs shooters on the floor to compliment the 2 designated 'go to guys'.

So...if KB is getting it, and Shaq is next...the system needs a SF who can hit the three and it needs a PG who can hit the three ball.

Fisher, simply put, is a better long range shooter than GP...so he gets the end game minutes.

GP should have joined the Pacers...would have been an absolutely perfect fit and he'd have been seen as the guy who put them over the top if they won it all.

            <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

I agree with this completely. Especially the part about his ring being tainted cause it'll seem like he just "jumped on the bandwagon". Same will hold true for Malone to a certain extent also. Ive always been a fan of someone helping to build a team up to a championship instead of just going to an already great team and winning one. It woulda been much better if Payton woulda come to the Pacers and helped them win a championship.

I don't know what you guys are talkng about. I've watched every Laker game this season and I can guarentee you, that the Lakers would be worse off than last year, where they actually battle the /Blazers/Rockets for playoff seeds, instead of battling with the elite teams. Gary Payton and Karl Malone do a lot for the team. When Karl was in the line-up the Lakers went 20-5. Ever since his injury, they've gone like 17-15. GP, I've already said that he sets up the Laker offense and kept the Lakers in the top 5 race when others were out.

Los Angeles Lakers guard Gary Payton, frustrated by what he said was both limited playing time and the team's triangle offense under Phil Jackson, said on Saturday that he may leave the team after the season. Payton signed a two-year deal with the Lakers but has an option to get out of the deal after the season.

"If that's the way [Jackson's] going to be, that's the way he's going to be, and I'll probably have to move on," Payton said.

With no rancor, Payton expressed frustration with his role in the team's offense. He isn't the focal point of the Lakers' attack, which features Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant. Payton goes minutes at a time without shooting. And while Jackson juggles minutes among Bryant, Payton, Derek Fisher and Kareem Rush, Payton said Saturday that he shouldn't be the one who has to sacrifice his game.

"They're going to have to satisfy Shaq and Kobe," Payton said. "They get 40 [minutes]. So we don't know. Whatever way [Jackson's] gonna do it, he'll do it. But I'm just going to state that I'm not pleased with my minutes I'm getting, because I don't think I'm productive being that way. And a lot of people see that. They see that I'm not comfortable with this. And it's affecting my game. My game is me playing minutes, and as the minutes go on, I get more productive and more productive. And I can't do that."

"If that's the way [Jackson's] going to be, that's the way he's going to be, and I'll probably have to move on," Payton said.

well, i really don't know what Gary Payton expected. I thought he came here to win a champoinship, thats why he took less money. Why is he suddenly bringing up these issues about playing time and not fitting in the offense. Gary, if u wanted playing time and wanted to be the Man, then you shouldn't have signed with the Lakers.
