    dieselboy's choice: Jerry Sloan

I think Sloan is the much more deserving candidate than Brown, but with that said Hubie Brown did amazing things. I mean, the Grizzlies have won 50 games thus far.

With that said, who thought the Jazz would be in the playoff hunt before the season started? Who thought the Jazz would be lucky to be a .500 team? Who thought the Jazz had a shot to be the worst team in the NBA, and were an early lottery lock? (Raises hand.)

Lets look at what Sloan has had to deal with. Sloan entered training camp having lost four of his top six scorers from the previous season. Two of those guys maybe you recognize, Karl Malone and John Stockton. The Jazz's big off-season addition? Oh, Keon Clark? Ya he went down with injury after two games. After a break out year last season, Matt Harpring's scoring went down before being lost for the season after just 31 games.

Sloan threw out his bread and butter, the pick and roll, using more of a two-guard front to help the before unheard of Carlos Arroyo. The move has worked very well, helping the Jazz score despite having no low post scoring threat. While Hubie Brown on the other hand has talent at every position. Not only every position, but also on the bench. Memphis is so loaded, thanks to the Logo himself, that he has almost 10 players on the team averaging 20 minutes or more. They can bring in anyone off the bench, and hardly miss a beat.

While Sloan on the other hand has a bunch of "Who is that?" for his team. Memphis counts seven lottery picks on its roster; Utah has one. Any guesses on who it is? Ostertag? Wrong. Harpring? Wrong. Kirilenko? Nope. Stevenson? Not him either. Its washed up has been, Tom Gugliotta. Who by the way, Sloan has playing arguably some of the best basketball since the late 90s.

Hubie Brown's acheivements shouldn't go un recognized, but the choice is clear, after 18 great seasons in the league, Jerry Sloan deserves COY. (BTW, Phil Jackson has voted for him six times).

I would, especially in the east. They have good players on that team. Brian Grant and Eddie were both all-stars at one point. Caron played a great year last year, and was 3rd for ROY. Dwayne Wade is also having a great rookie year and is probably 3rd this year for ROY. And Lamar. Well, he was the X Factor, and he has done everthing his potential said he could do.

This isn't to take anything away from Stan Van Gundy. He's done a great job, and should also get serious consideration for COY. But if you look at the rosters, and what conference each team is in, I think the Jazz have surpassed what everyone thought they could do. And that's from Sloan.

I would too. While, it may have been tough for Stan, because of Pat Riley's sudden departure, this team is really loaded. They are one of the few teams in the East that are very talented at every starting position.

Stan Van Gundy didn't even come to my mind when considering other candidates. In my opinion it probably goes #1 Sloan, #2 Hubie, #3 Terry Porter, #4 Jeff Bzedik, and #5 Rick Carlisle.

Carlisle came into a new situation, and lead the Pacers to the best record in the NBA. He has all ready added ten more wins to last season's total, despite the loss of Brad Miller.

Jeff Bzedik, has the Nuggets in playoff contention on the final week of basketball. Sure, Denver added a lot of talent from last years team, Miller, Lenard, Melo, Boykins, Barry, etc, but those guys hadn't played together before. This team had 17 wins last season, while this year they might be making the playoffs.

Lastly, the Coach who I think could get a few votes for COY, but will end up 3rd or later, is Terry Porter. Sports Illustrated picked this team as the worst in the NBA. This team in the last few season's had Ray Allen, Glen Robinson, Sam Cassel, and Gary Payton. Who would have picked them at .500 or better? Better yet, so have clinched the playoffs? Terry has got great production out of Joe Smith, Brian Skinner, Damon Jones, and rookie T.J. Ford who went down with injury after playing 55 games. He is still learning the trick of the trade, but Terry Porter made great progress in Milwaukee.
