The Jazz aren't contending no time soon. They don't need an instant replacement. I do like Hayward but in no way he is a max player. They will be looking to trade him in 3 years if they give him a max deal.

If someone wants to give him a max, could they match and then trade to the team? A sign and trade.

        Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread

Hayward's not a max contract guy. Wouldn't be surprised if he got one because let's be real here...there's only maybe 5-6 guys in the league that are truly max contract guys. The other ones that aren't but are getting max deals are getting because most teams don't really have much of an alternative.

It's always easy for us as fans to say "Let (insert player)walk for nothing" because it's not our money, but if I'm the Jazz Owner, it's not that easy to just say "Let him go, we'll find another one". In today's NBA, most small market teams aren't in a position where they can easily make that decision to let him walk and recover from it quickly.

No, once he signs an offer sheet with someone, a sign and trade is off the table, and if Utah were to match, he'd have a no-trade clause for the first year of his contract.

            I'd give him a 6.5-7.

I knew from the moment he was hired, there would be growing pains with him and that I'd be fine with them as long as he showed progress, which he did.

Looked like a guy who maybe was in a bit over his head but got comfortable with it and the team turned it around once it hit 2014. He was the one that convinced Pierce to move to PF and Joe to SF while inserting Livingston into the starting lineup. Do I think any other coach could've been plugged in and we'd get the same results? No I don't.

"If the Nets agree then there will be a deal, if they don't then (the Bucks) are comfortable moving on and there will be nothing further to talk about," said the source. "The only thing (the Bucks) would give them is a second-round pick. They want a first. In the next 24 hours, there will either be a deal or there won't be a deal."
              Thank. God.

I agree with you on this subject, but I don't feel like Hayward falls under the "not a max guy, but gets paid like one anyway" category(or whatever that category is lol). I think he's a little below that, just my opinion. If I'm the Jazz I'm letting him walk if someone offers him the max. That's crazy. And it aint like I don't know what it's like to be in that situation.. I'm a Pacers fan after all... we gave Hibbert the max...

Speaking of max contracts, I hope the Lakers seriously consider offering Bledsoe one and pray he can have a healthy career.

So would it have been the ultimate "face turn" if Chris Bosh let LeBron and Wade opt out and then opted in for his 20 million?

Yeah I think a healthy Bledsoe and healthy Kobe even In the bitter west is good enough to get you into the playoffs. (As long as There is no Brown or Danphony at the coaching helm.) I see Pau coming back and hopefully they sign a solid defensive big. It was weird seeing two huge franchises such as the Lakers and the Celtics both in the lottery.

i would laugh SOOO hard if he did that.. his reputation would not be very good around the league for being a team player..but you cant blame a guy for opting into 20m when hes worth about 10 tops

If they went that route I'd focus on defense and instead bring back Ariza and sign Okafor.

I never put him in that category though or at least it wasn't my intent.

My point is most teams aren't in a position or never will be in where they can just let good talent go and keep moving as if nothing is wrong. Those teams' margin of error is a lot more slimmer compared to say a team like...LA Lakers for example. One thing about Contracts and Sports, they're always easy to call out AFTER the fact. Shoot, Deron Williams is getting it right now.
