Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
I don't believe they will play Gordon at the 4 unless they move someone.
If they don't start him it'll be to play Harkless at SF and Harris/O'Quinn starting at the 4. But Harkless needs to hurry up and grow some balls, he's just too timid.
If Gordon does start at the 4 I think it leaves Harris at 6th man rather than starting at the 3 over Mo.

He won't be a 40% three-point shooter in this league, at least not right away, but I think he'll be a respectable shooter from outside. Maybe around 36% or so.Twitter: @TyroneisMaximus

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
so lets see... $55m in cap space.
bron gets a $22m contr
wade gets a $12m
bosh gets a $12m
haslem gets $1m
ray gets $1m
bird gets $1m
rio gets.. nothing?
i venture about 5-10 million left to throw around with MLE and other cap room?Comment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
I don't buy the fact that LeBron wants to sign a max deal. It literally conflicts with what the Big 3 + UD are currently doing by opting out. And I doubt Wade, Bosh & UD are sacrificing their own money just so LeBron can get paid. LeBron even stated that this team needs to improve in the off-season. So if he decides to take the max deal, it pretty much hinders the Heat's cap flexibility (I'd say probably about $5 million in cap space left) and I can't really see the 're-tooling' roster being better than last years'.Last edited by vtcha; 06-30-2014, 08:48 PM.Comment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Also depends on how he does these contracts but I don't think he'll have a hard time filling out that roster. I'm almost certain he's been preparing for this moment for a while, like how he prepared for 2010.#RespectTheCultureComment

I think Gordon is going to surprise people with his jumper. He shot really well in some workouts and I think that's why Orlando passed on Exum to pick him up.

I agree, and that's honestly all it takes because he should already be able to play the SF position defensively and attacking wise. As much as people hated the draft comparison I think he does compare to someone like Marion. Small Forward with size to stretch to the 4, he plays defense and rebounds well.. Marion and someone like Deng weren't good shooters coming out.
I could see him developing similar to Deng. Deng became a full time starter his 3rd year, and shot 14% from 3, he jumped to 36% his 4th year. That's why I hate the "he can't do this" comments because everyone develops differently. Deng used to be hesitant as hell to even take 3's when he had them, and developed into a 30-40% reliable option.. I think Gordon can do the same, he's definitely a "tweener" type but I don't think it's a mismatched PF like Williams, I think he's just a bigger SF like Marion/Deng, etc..
Obviously I'm not saying he's as good as Marion or Deng, just threw that out before people jumped all over it like they did on draft night.

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Miami would be nice with Ariza/Deng/Marion and an extra big, whoever that big is.
But they desperately need to address a Wade sub IMO. Their biggest weakness is when he leaves the game and there is zero defense and zero playmaking at his position.. It was so bad that when he sat games Douglas was the starting shooting guard, that's enough indication to know you have a problem.
Carter, Meeks, Stuckey, could help fill that void somewhat.. But if they were to land Lowry the need becomes much, much smaller to fill that spot. Because Lowry can do the creating without the need of a shooting guard to do it.

IMO I just want the Heat to add youth and athleticism. Just give me some young guys that can run and jump and LBJ can make them look a whole lot better.
I actually would love to raid the Lakers. I would take any combo of Meeks, Henry, Hill, Bazemore or Wes Johnson. Mike Scott, Patrick Patterson, Ed Davis, or Patty Mills are also intriguing.
I want young guys that can use success in Miami as a springboard to getting a huge payday somewhere else.Good job! Good effort!Comment

Once the others offer him a max deal without the team to go with it he says Im staying in Miami then... honestly who can make a better offer when he has Bosh Haslem Wade Cole and Napier already on board?Comment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
I thought MIA needed to renounce their players rights to have all the cap space(losing their bird rights)? Ill look it up, but I thought that the cap holds would hinder what MIA can do. Should be an exciting start to the offseason, even though I wish the Cavs weren't quick to give Kyrie the full max.Comment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
I'm guessing not very much, though I honestly have no idea. A lot of it depends on what they do with Haslem, Ray, Bird, Mario, Beas.. Because I believe Cole is the only player currently on the roster since everyone opted out of their contracts.

But yeah, there is no chance this "LeBron is taking the max" stuff will be happening.
Looking at the way it was laid out on Sportscenter this morning I don't see how it could work because it completely defeats the point of them all opting out.
LeBron takes the max, then they took Bosh down to 15 mil and DWade to 12 mil. Since Haslem was supposed to be taking a cut they took him down to like 3.5 million or something like that and that left them with like 3 or 4 million dollars in cap space if I remember right.Comment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
so as far as lebrons reported want of the max.
the nba tv contract is coming up soon, and when that is done the salary cap will go up.
more salary cap means a higher max contract, and the more lebron is making now, the higher his max contract would be.

At least I'm pretty sure that's the way it works. If Wade/Bosh agree to take contracts around $12 million a year instead of $20, that will free up the money they need to bring in another solid piece.
There's probably another way around it that I'm not thinking of, but yeah.NFL: Bills

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm 39-41 explains the cap hold and renounce rights. Dont believe LBJ would take the max, unless Wade and Bosh take big paycuts. I think they just sign contracts similar to 2010, except Wade and Bosh start at 12 million and LBJ at 14-15 million.Comment
