Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread

    @bringtheheat

there was a tweet that followed up the jersey # saying that if melo goes to houston lin is being traded out. (it might be a SnT brining lin back to NY?)

LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh do not appear to be acting in unison with free agency now underway.
James, Wade and Bosh met last Wednesday, but they walked away from the meeting only knowing that James wanted a max contract. Wade and Bosh expressed a commitment to remain with the Miami Heat, but James was unsure.
James did not ask or suggest that Wade and Bosh opt out of their deals or take lesser salaries to allow the Heat to add other top players, according to the sources.
Bosh and Wade are intent on returning to Miami, but neither of them knows what James will do.
"It's not a done deal," said one source, when asked about James' return to Miami. "That's for sure."

That's ****ed up Houston lol Not sure if it's at all helpful to throw a current player under the bus if you're trying to sweet talk another player to come to your team.

Im guessing some team would have to blow his socks off to make him bounce from NY. That along with uprooting the family is probably a big deal so he wants to make sure its worth it.

HOU's bench is garbage. Garcia, Cassipi, a D League jumpshooter and your boy Lin along with Donte Montijuana minus Asik.

There's a difference between the Heat signing LeBron and then Mario giving up his number to him and the Rockets photoshopping Melo into a jersey with a dude already on the team's number though lol.

Honestly man they could've just asked the dude, im sure he would've been cool with it that way... or just used his #15 he had from Denver.

            Morey on using #7

Rockets GM Daryl Morey on Toyota Center marquee w/ pictures of Carmelo Anthony wearing #7(Jeremy Lin's #): "It's always a challenging(more)
— Mark Berman (@MarkBermanFox26) July 2, 2014

            The full quote is
it's always a challenging situation during free agency. You are always having to recruit players & there might be current players at current positions, might be people with the current numbers. It's unfortunate that it's often hard to handle. Reality is it's standard practice. When we went after Chris Bosh a few years ago,we had him N Luis)Scola's number. When we went after Dwight Howard he had (Pat) Beverley's number. I get the sensitivity & I hate that it creates some hurt feelings.I don't like that, but that's obviously Carmelo Anthony's number, that's the number he wants. Bottomline, if Carmelo comes Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin have to be traded. It's just math. It's not personal. My job is every day figure out how to win. Sometimes it creates challenging situations.
Pretty blunt from Morey, although I still don't understand why they don't use Melo's 15. Unless I'm mistaken the only reason he doesn't use that number with the Knicks is cause it's retired for Earl Monroe

Morey is a jerk. They poison pilled Asik & Lin making it hard for their prior teams to resign them and before the season starts both might be gone.

Going from Lance to CJ is just... a big drop off

Miles has been mostly irrelevant most of his entire career
I think CJ Miles will fit in well with the Pacers, gives them some shooting and I think he'll be serviceable. The dropoff from Lance is clear but I think this deal only gets done if Indiana thinks they can't keep Stephenson.

I heard somewhere that the 5/44Mil offer they gave Stephenson was the max they could offer without luxury tax worries which the Pacers owner has stated he doesn't want to pay in the past. So if Stephenson really isn't willing to play ball for that money the Pacers might have just decided to move on and make moves (albeit a not that important one...)

word is stephenson thinks hes worth ALOT more than that pacers offer of 9mil a year ish.

he probly asking 12-14 at the minimum from teams..could see him as one of the last signings for a 1-2 year deal on a bad team
