Issues with management is what I'm reading. Players loving him, a winning record, and back to back playoff appearances weren't enough to keep his job.

I realize it's more than just results with Jackson, but NBA teams tend to have awfully quick trigger fingers when it comes to firing coaches.

      Bad move for GS, IMHO.

There's got to be bigger problems in the GSW front office than any of us know right now. That's the only reasonable explanation.

This is why some teams in the league have the history/track record they have.

Dude has the players AND the majority of fans behind him and on top of that, took a team that was trending downwards ever since the Don Nelson days and turned them into a playoff contender(including 2 trips in his first 3 years coming straight from the Announcing Booth)and still loses his job.

Mind you, the things I mentioned are the most important factors for a Coach that the fans care about(in addition to player development, which I'm assuming he did a good job there as well)and that's still not enough. Yeah, I definitely hope the next guy they bring in is a significant upgrade over Jackson otherwise they'll be right back where they were after they fired Nelson real quick.

Mark Jackdon has done an great job IMHO. If he was fired due to upper management this sounds like Hollins 2.0

Mark Jackson had issues with management plain and simple.

He is rumored to have had put his resume in for other coaching considerations not knowing if he'd be here another year or so.

He basically turned a deaf ear to anyone who tried to help him with the team whether it was coaching staff or management. Some had several issues with his rotations and play calling.

Anyway, They've also had some rumored names in the hat including Steve Kerr and Dwight's buddy Stan Van Gundy. Who knows where this will end up though.

Why is Steve Kerr suddenly the hot free agent coach all of a sudden. Does he have any coaching experience at all? Jason Kidd proved to be successful without any, but I'm curious as to why Steve Kerr is attached to so many openings.

Probably because of basketball IQ and stuff. Look at baseball, many coaches are guys who used to be catchers, cause for the most part, they have highest baseball IQ out of any position.

                      Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread

Kerr is getting all this attention probably because of the Phil connection, which to this day I don't understand.

The SVG one is a weird one considering aside from the Dwight mess that he got caught up in, he had issues with the Ownership there as well as far as interfering with the team goes.

LOS ANGELES -- In the moments after the Game 7 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, Stephen Curry wouldn't go so far as to call the Warriors' season a success.
But Curry, whose All-Star year lifted the Warriors to 51 wins during the regular season, was clear in saying that he believed Mark Jackson "deserves to be our coach" and return next season.
"I love Coach more than anybody, and I think for him to be in a situation where his job is under scrutiny and under question is totally unfair," Curry said. "And it would definitely be a shock to me if anything like that were to happen.
"I'm going to voice my support for Coach."
And so began what could be an offseason of change for the Warriors, who have a decision to make on Jackson as he enters the final year of his contract.
Co-owner Joe Lacob last month declined to assess the job Jackson has done, pointing to a vote of confidence from general manager Bob Myers that was offered in the wake of a second assistant coach departing late in the season.
Lacob told this newspaper's Tim Kawakami in February that Jackson had done a "good job."
"But some things are a little disturbing -- the lack of being up for some of these games at home, that's a concern to me," Lacob said.
Jackson addressed questions about his job status throughout the season and postseason even as the Warriors racked up their most regular-season wins since 1991-92.
"What Coach has gone through this year has been unlike anything I've seen -- just the amount of distractions and the circus that's been around him and decisions he's had to make," Curry said. "We came into the season thinking this was a long-term situation, but obviously he's been having to answer these questions all year."
Curry's teammates, who have developed a chemistry that Jackson has said has them "tied together," also voiced support for their coach.
"I love him," guard Klay Thompson said. "I love playing for Coach Jackson. I hope he's back. He makes it so fun to go to work every day. I got so much better under his tutelage in three years. I don't know where I'd be if I didn't have him the last three years.
"We went from 47 wins to 51 wins. Hopefully, we go to 55, 60 next year and just keep getting better. I think we've got the group to do it."
Under Jackson, the Warriors became one of the NBA's top defensive teams. Even when the team lost injured center Andrew Bogut for the postseason, players fought hard -- some said it was for Jackson -- in the series against the No. 3-seeded Clippers.
"That's definitely what Coach has built, guys who are going to give max effort," forward Draymond Green said. "That's what he preaches every single day. And you fall in line, everybody. You just fall in line. If you have a great leader, you fall in line."
Jackson said he was confident his future would be fine even if that meant spending time as a full-time pastor, which isn't what his players want.
"His presence affects the entire team just from a respect level, from a spiritual level, making every guy a better man," forward Andre Iguodala said. "And those are the things you'll remember looking back on your career, not only how you grew as a basketball player but how you grew as a man. It's a very rare trait in a basketball coach."

                        He had that Phil baptism.

Oh, and he met with Bill Parcells last year to learn how to lead.

I guess that's all you need these days.

What's happening with Kerr is what happens with every assistant who sits under a big time coach.

Was Kerr ever even an assistant coach? I remember him as a GM, but not as a coach.

Seems to be a strange career path: player - analyst - GM - analyst - coach.

If we can hire a better head coach im all for the move but lets be real Mark Jackson wouldn't take us far with the way he coaches questionable rotations, can't design any plays he just relied on isoball and mismatches. This is also part of a reason why a guy like harrison barnes struggled because he wasn't put in a position to be successful with all those iso and post ups.
