Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
My bad. Thought he was a FA this summer. Well in that case, they need someone similar to Nate that can provide some offensive spark off the bench.Comment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
I don't know if it's slow development though because we seen guys like Jeremy Lamb and Reggie Jackson sit in their first year and go back and forth between the D-League but then once they were in the league full time, they got the opportunities and then played their way into becoming reliable rotation players. Part of developing your bench is trusting guys and letting them play through mistakes since that'll be one of the only ways they can grow as a player.
Lamb was in the rotation for half of the season and then was on the bench and didn't get off towards the end of the season(who knows why)while Reggie remained there. Might've played his way into a starting spot depending on what they do at SG this offseason. Perry Jones is another one who at one point was getting consistent PT during the season and then was never heard from again.Comment

likely trying to sign him to a long contract, or dangling him out as trade baitComment

Are they worried about him not accepting a long term offer or something? I don't get that.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
They could have signed him to a long contract without giving teams the ability to make him an offer. In addition, how do you essentially throw away a year of paying Chandler Parsons less than a million dollars? That's not smart business.

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
"@uuords: Declining Parsons's offer puts HOU in driver's seat. Limits what Parsons can get and gives them all rights to match. Long game."
The Rockets hold a $960,000 option on Parsons for 14-15, but this move will allow the club to sign him this summer to a long-term deal to avoid letting him become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
Houston is determined to create the necessary cap space to pursue a third max contract free agent.
LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Carmelo Anthony and Dirk Nowitzki are prospective targets for the Rockets.
The Rockets will also pursue a trade for Kevin Love, which creates sign-and-trade possibilities involving Parsons.
The Rockets could sign three max contract players and then re-sign Parsons to a new deal below the max-level range.Comment

lol houston gonna throw a boatload of money @ melo then try and get parsons on the cheapComment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Parsons isn't going to come cheap regardless, although with the Bird Rights they do for sure have the upper hand. However if obtaining Melo, Love or LeBron is their end game the move doesn't necessarily make too much sense, unless of course the aforementioned sign and trade scenario is the way they want to go, which might be the most plausible in regards to obtaining Love. But then that puts them in situation in which they would have to most likely part with Terrence Jones as well to make it work, instead of being able to just sign Love in free agency if that is really what they want.
Idk, a puzzling decision to me. I get the intent and there is probably something we don't know, but from the outside looking in I think you let him ride out that last year, see what Melo does and then make the decision.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
on realgm it has wojos story, it says its to clear enough cap space to make a run at a max player, and by doing this they have the space to sign 3 max players total, then go and pay parsons..so assuming houston gets what they want they can have melo come in without moving anyone, then allowing them to flip lin/asik for some good bench playersComment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
tbh the only person from the Pacers that should be on the trading block is George Hill. The other 4 should remain in tact. I think all they need is some kind of therapy bonding session over the off-season. I mean just 6 months ago, they were considered the best team in the league and the majority of that reason is most likely internal/off-court dramas. Heck they can even keep Hill and just try to sign some depth during the off-season- particularly a facilitator and someone that can provide bench scoring. Some guys they could target include Ramon Sessions, Luke Ridnour, Nate Robinson or Steve Blake.Tennessee Volunteers
