Not saying the Parsons and Hayward deals mean he SHOULD be paid that, saying they mean he WILL be paid that.
Remember, it only takes one team to look at all the factors involved and say its worth a shot. You take a team like Minnesota and what do they have to lose throwing him a deal hoping he turns into the star they don't have (if/when Love leaves)? Are they wasting cap space? No one is signing there.
In an ideal world the only players receiving 15+ would be franchise guys, but that's not how it works. In the last 4-5 years we've seen tons of teams throw big money at young players that were risks and unproven on the wing hoping to find a star. Potential gets paid.
Toronto with Derozan, Phoenix and New Orleans with Gordon, Charlotte and Utah with Hayward, Dallas with Parsons, New Orleans with Evans, Boston with Green... All of these are examples of teams paying over "what market value should be" for young wing players hoping they show promise. And the numbers have only gotten higher this offseason with Parsons and Hayward. That's just how this system works.
You may not believe in Thompson. To be honest I don't really believe in Thompson. But you can see the reasons why he could get paid and that's enough. It only takes one to look at the same reasons and deduct its worth the risk, and for a lot of teams its a risk they have to take.
