2014 Off-Season Thread
I dont like that argument. It makes it sound as if a players skill drops or their value is likened to another player who is putting up those same numbers.
Sure Loves numbers will drop. But his "averages" dont tell the full story.
There will be games where love is going to drop 35/40 points or grab 15/20 rebounds. There will be games where his play will be the biggest reason they get the W. There will be stretches where he will have completely taken over the game and kept his team in it. Or sparked a rally himself.
Thats where his true value lies. Not in his average production because he isnt going to be needed to drop 25 or 30 for this team on a nightly basis. So yes his average will drop. But there will be games where they will need a big game from him to get the win, or to carry the team for a stretch and thats when having him on the team will be of true value.
Im not saying I agree with trying to trade to get him now. Im just saying that adding a guy like Love pays off big time despite what statistics will tell us.Comment

Also I think the intrigue of Wiggins is what turns this into a debate. At this point, we know what Kevin Love is. It's the fact that Wiggins can be the next great superstar player that would make me pause as a GM."Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. He is a notoriously bad defender, and 99% of his value, comes from what he does with the basketball is in his hand.
His value is currently being inflated by the fact that Minnesota has virtually no one else that can score the basketball. You can expect that if Love is the third option, his on court value will diminish. Especially seeing he isn't effecting the game defensively.
Yes, he will draw attention away from LeBron, but so will Kyrie, so will Wiggins if retained, and so will Waiters.
So in the case of Love, stats do tell most of the story.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Per DraftExpress on his college days:
Looking forward, Felix is an intriguing prospect due to his physical tools and groundwork of two-way skills, but he's definitely a late bloomer who still is rough around the edges in most areas despite turning 22 before his senior season. Still, he's shown a very steep learning curve in the past three years and that, combined with his high motor and athletic abilities make him a player a team could be willing to invest development in.Comment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
I'd say that Bosh's rebounding dip is more about his own laziness and playing on the perimeter more than anything. LeBron wasn't a double digit rebounding guy in Miami. There is no reason Bosh should have been getting 6-7 rebound per game seasons down there. Boozer was still averaging 8-9 rebounds a game despite playing with Noah averaging 10+ and splitting big minutes with Taj. Rebounding is about effort. Love isn't going to take a dip that drastic just because he's playing with LeBron

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
But do the Cavs really need rebounding that desperately?
Without Love, or LeBron for that matter, they were the 5th best team in the East rebounding the basketball.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
andy and lebron alone will get you 17+ boards a game combined, TT probly be around 6-8, kyrie/SG will get you 2-3 each...
the thing with love rebounding is it will allow lebron to get out in transition more, ultimately leading to more "easy" buckets.
i still dont think the trade is worth it if wiggins goes but who am i to run the cavsComment

EXACTLY! And they just added LeBron and Wiggins.. They could easily be a top 3 rebounding group next year.

Everyone still ignoring that Kevin Love has never stayed healthy for a full season of basketball yet, nor does he have playoff experience.
