Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Cal also knows when college players are NBA ready. I think he could benefit team scouts, as well as know any sleeper players who might go undrafted or fall late in a draft.

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
I think a lot of the NBA is all about who you know and recruiting guys to places. Calipari has some of the best relationships in the NBA and Cal is one of the best at both of those in basketball. He's also a master at getting guys to believe in themselves and seems to really know how to bring out talent in young players.

Ehh he just does a phenomenal job of making sure the players know what their options are after the year (for example he had Archie Goodwin in his office then put the phone on speaker and talked to a bunch of NBA guys who had no idea Goodwin was there, and they all told him he should go back another year.Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
So tough for me to know how good of an X's and O's guy he really is or isn't.. He does a good job of getting guys to play well together, but he always has 3 or 4 guys on his roster at a time who can pretty much do whatever they want at the college level.. So even when something good happens you can't ever tell if it's something that was designed or just a great player making plays against people he's better than.
Either way at that price I think he's over paid. But I'm all for over paying if it leads to wins. He might have been perfect for getting Kyrie/Waiters to mesh.

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
so at the least cal would be a better recruiting/motivating/inspiring scott brooks?
most definately overpaid, but i think he would make a good nba coach if he were in the right situation (team with good young talent, front office that doesnt try to get a new coach every year etc)Comment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
incase you missed it and want to listen, rondo hosted numbers never lie today, discussing love to boston, and lebrons future among other things http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=11107725
warriors give 3yr assistant deal to alvin gentry
and then i saw this ><
If they are unable to acquire Kevin Love, Boston Celtics are reportedly planning a longer and more methodical rebuilding process that likely would see Rajon Rondo get traded.
The Celtics have a taker for Jeff Green if they decide to move him, according to a source.
The Celtics are not giving up in their discussions with the Minnesota Timberwolves but have thus far been rebuffed in talks. Boston has offered the Nos. 6 and 17 picks in this year’s draft, Kelly Olynyk and one of their own future No. 1 picks for Love, according to a source.
Love has reportedly told the Timberwolves' front office that he will opt out of his contract and leave next offseason if he is not traded beforehand.Last edited by turty11; 06-19-2014, 11:37 PM.Comment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Very interesting move by the Cavs with the hiring of Blatt. It's nice that an organization is confident enough to look outside of the usual sources. This Blatt guy comes with a lot of pedigree but i'm not expecting success right away as the NBA game is a lot different than the Euro League. If the Cavs can be patient with him and there's signs of improvement than this could be a very astute hire.

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Denver trade has way more known quantities than the Boston one. Plus, Saunders doesn't really want to deal with Ainge due to how the KG deal went down. Faried, Afflalo (or 11th OVA) and Chandler > 6th OVA, Olynyk and Sullinger in my opinion. Boston could offer additional picks though.
If the Warriors offer up Thompson, I'd be all over it if I was Minnesota. He's a future all star in this league. If you're trying to get one wow-factor guy in return for Love, that would be the guy.
