Well Kobe has made no secret he is opting out. If he does LA can't give him anything more than the Vet's exception. Why would he give up 17 Mil next year for 4? He wouldn't so he is gonna get the max from San Antonio or Denver or whoever.

Obviously Kobe is opting out. Just to let you know, the Lakers will offer Kobe the max contract because they have no 4 million dollar restriction that you speak of.Comment

And you have the whole salary thing backwards. Like jordan said, it's the Lakers that can give him the max. The rest of teams have to work with under the cap or give him the vet exception. And we all know Kobe won't take the mid level exception.Comment

I'm not sure if I read your comment correctly, but this is how I see it. The Lakers, can go over their salary cap and offer Kobe the max because they have his Larry Bird Rights. Any other team that wants him, there are a couple of ways to get him. If a team has significant room under the cap, then they can offer him all of that money under their cap. The Jazz and the Clippers have the most cap space, I think. And then the Nuggets and Spurs. Teams over the cap can offer him the mid-level exception, which is probably gonna be around $5 mil, or something close to that. Otherwise, they can do a sign and trade in which Kobe gets his max money and then gets moved to another team for players the come to within 15% of his salary.
The Lakers aren't going to trade Kobe, so that last scenario isn't going to happen. And if Kobe does decide to leave, then he's gonna get less money and probably on a non-contending team. Most everything points to him staying a Laker. Especially the way Buss has been so supportive and fatherly to Kobe.Comment

Re: It\'s over
Kobe has made in clear in the past that even when they were winning the championships, it hasn't been fun. Playing with Shaquille isn't fun, having his parents not speak to him for so long wasn't fun, being a Laker isn't fun. I think he just needs his own team to run where he can just play basketball and not worry about all the stuff that goes on with the Lakers. He did jokingly tell Dunleavy to "save that cap space" so your right, he may just stay in LA after all lol.
I like Kobe, but I don't like the Lakers and I can see why he would want to play elsewhere, it's not about winning all the time, it's about playing somewhere where your happy and your comfortable.Comment
