Rebounding STILL a problem in NBA LIVE 2003

Why can't EA fixed the horrible rebounding in NBA LIVE? The rebounding is still a huge issue in NBA LIVE 2003. People have complained about this but EA does not care. Your players just stand there staring into open space and will not even attempt to rebound the ball!! The game is also very arcade just like last year. EA should stop making basketball games because they just cannot get it right.

The rebounding was easily my biggest gripe I had with last year's NBA Live. I'm almost 100% sure I will be purchasing NBA2K3 for my hoops game this year.

Where did you get that info from? The game's not even out yet and the best thing, IMHO, is to wait and see how it is once it's released. Still, I'm curious where you got the notion that the rebounding hasn't been fixed in Live 2003.

Re: Rebounding STILL a problem in NBA LIVE 2003

By the way, what you see in videos is NOT representative of what the actual game will be like. For one thing, the videos we see only highlight features that look "cool" or show something spectacular. IGN has a recent hands-on impression with live 2003 and the fear that defenders would be easily schooled given the offensive freedom you have seems to be without merit. even though we saw a ton of videos that showed defenders getting crossed up or whatever, that is supposedly NOT what the real game's like. And Live 2003 supposedly did attempt to fix their rebounding woes. They added more rebounding animations, something that was lacking in prior iterations which probably was a major reason why the rebounding was so poor until now. Whether the rebounding model is successful or not is still something that will be determined when the game comes out. I wonder if they'll release a demo before the game is actually released.

animations weren't the problem in live... You could make rebounding work with one animation. The problem is that they simply didn't work. I would have the ball bounce off my hands, face, whatever. It was just plain broken.

I am sorry but it is not all about game play. If it were all about gameplay, no one would ever release any screen shots. Also, shootout is susposed to have a revamped gameplay but people still "poop" on it automatically (myself included) because it looks like it is for ps one. And yes, I too don't understand the hype for inside drive. The graphics look horrible (players don't look like their real life counter part, too dark, everybody seems to be jacked, etc...) and I think the gameplay isn't as good as the 2k series or live. I don't even think that live can match up with the 2k series. I don't get the hype about that game either.

Of course there are those who care about the graphics. They're not hardcore b-ball fanatics that care the most about the gameplay. Hell, I still take pleasure from playing Live 2000 on my PC, which is very dated, but has GREAT gameplay. As for NBA 2k2, I've listed my problems with that game elsewhere. From a shallow viewpoint, it is the best b-ball game that can be made, but once you give enough time to it, you'll notice that it's as deeply flawed as Inside Drive or NBA Live. Possibly even more because Visual Concepts can't nail down the game flow aspect of b-ball, something that's very crucial, IMHO. They can't nail down the accuracy of FG% either, which were way too high in NBA 2k2. They didn't understand that the game needed FEWER dunks, not more. As it is, I really have hope for NBA 2k3 though since they supposedly put a large deal of customization into the user's hands. But guess what? So has ID 2003 ALREADY. There are sliders for everything in that game, at least according to what I read in the impressions topic for that game. The game has the best textures of any b-ball game, IMHO. It's clean and while I do think the player models are a little too lanky and awkward looking as well as a bit chunky, the game does provide for a more realistic experience than NBA 2k2 did. It IS a hard game to get into, and unless you've played the game for longer than a couple of days, I guess you wouldn't understand what was so great about the game. It had a better post game, a better midrange game, and a lot of the features it has now, by the way, are being implemented in NBA 2k3, but were never implemented before. Such as fronting the post player, etc. As for Live 2003, it may have both competitors beat in terms of innovation. I've been always wanting more control over my crossovers and offensive moves, and Live 2003 seems to have pulled it off (according to what I've seen and read). If the gameplay is more like Live 2000, then I'm not going to hesitate to buy it on the PC.

SGN just got their copy of Live 2003 and stated that the rebounding is definatly fixed and the graphics look great.

This news is from a tester from SGN so it's not actually posted at the site but I'm assuming it will be soon. Till then, up to you whether the source is reliable or not.

SGN is taking questions over at the NLSC site, to post for an update this evening (screenshots/movies). They give a quick update that rebounding is fixed (not great but better than last year) and graphics are good. Although the IGN article said the AI was good, they say the AI is still weak and too easy to get to the basket. Have a mention of franchise and the new control scheme.

Wow, that doesn't sound too promising. What mode are they playing it on anyway? I think that would make a big difference. I hope the demo comes out soon so I can see for myself. The rebounding has to be better than last year. Last year's rebounding sucked.

The rebounding is still a problem no matter what SGN says. If I remember correctly, SGN gave NBA LIVE 2001 PS2 a very high score and ignored most of the issues with that game. It is also probably still to easy to dunk and get easy points inside.
