i hate when people blame David Stern for the loss of the team they wanted to win. Just another excuse for those laker haters to use. David Stern gets so much undeserved blame.

That's where I first read about it. It says:

The newspaper never claimed Bryant guaranteed a victory, as Rasheed Wallace boldly did before the Pistons' win in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals. But that didn't stop reporters on Monday from peppering Bryant, his teammates and the Pistons with questions about a guarantee.

``I don't understand your question. I promised?'' Bryant asked in bewilderment. ``I'll go with that, man. It's fine with me.''

The rest of the players also didn't get it, though the Lakers couldn't exactly reply negatively to loaded questions asking whether they had to win Game 5.

i think this will give more motivation for Detroit to win. Theyve already promised and provided a victory, now they have a chance to win the championship but shutting down someone elses promise to victory

Apparently, newspapers don't just report the news, they create it too. I hate what the media has become, and I do believe they have way too much power.
