Let's not start this again.. McGrady ain't no Kobe on defense.. when your carrying your team on offense it does take more of his energy from the defensive end. Since he is 6' 8'' playing the 2, he does usually let his athleticism and length play D for him, but he will contest 90% of the shots that he can, and doesn't get beat off the dribble much.. when did he become so bad at at defense all of a sudden?

Name two players on the Magic that played last year that can make a three pointer... at all...

It was either Tyronn Lue jacking up garbage... Deshawn Stevenson running around like a chicken with his head cut off... Drew Gooden and Juwan Howard posting up and not playing defense... Zaza Pachulia, Andrew Declerq and Steven Hunter combining for 3 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 block... with, bless his heart, a very tough player, Keith Bogans...

The only two shooters we had, Gordan Giricek and Pat Garrity were injured, until Giricek was shipped off to Utah...

The Magic had an awful team this year, and no one can deny that fact. The point of TMac playing or not playing defense is due in part to the truth that no one else, except maybe Juwan Howard, could score on offense... so his energy was spent on the offensive end, fending off triple teams, and trying to get teammates involved, or his shot to fall...

            Re: T-Mac to Houston??

Doc Rivers said Mac is a quote "dis-interested defender" and has a tough time focusing on the game for 48 minutes. Maybe he had a personal beef w/ Mac, maybe he was trying to light a fire under him...who knows, but he did say it. How will that play out with a coach who preaches defense and intensity above everything else?

IMO, McGrady is the most talented guy in the league. He's an elite athlete, plus he has lethal a combo of inside/outside game...but like Pippen, Penny, CWebb, Dominique and others, he just doesn't have that....thing.

No matter how talented he is, fans will always gravitate towards that guy that can become godlike when the game is most exciting, most tense, like an MJ. Remember when KG rattled off 13 straight against the Kings in that game 7 in the Kings series? That was the most exciting, compelling 13 points that cat scored all season.

When the Magic met the Cavs on X-mas, Mac seemed to take the hype and the tension of "new HS guy vs the older HS guy" to heart and out-dueled LeBron to a thrilling finish where he simply rose above the comp when it mattered. Obviously it's in him somewhere... Some guys can do that night in and night out, its in their mental make-up.

That was a great game -- McGrady left it on the court that night. Wish I would have recorded it.
