And how was Kobe supposed to know that sneaking away would lead to him being accused of rape? I'm sure tons of players go places and do things their team has no idea about. You make it sound like if Kobe had told the Lakers he was going up to Colorado for surgery, that none of this would have ever happened.

Why are you justifying this? So it was okay for him to sneak behind the teams back to have a surgery they most likely didnt authorize. Suppose the doctor did something unrepairable to the knee. You still think Buss would have been chippy about it?

I can say if he had not been to Colorado that yes, this wouldnt have happened. The team may have even sent someone with him even if he did "HAVE" to go there.

No matter what others do, Kobe is the one on a rape trial, and is in position to get raped by his wife, and her family financially because of it.

Yes his court dates and trial and questions were a distraction to the team. What NBA were you looking at. The team was filled with drama the entire season, and he was part of it too. This entire ordeal is drama and baggage in itself. Again suppose he had lost the case... Ah never mind, because that aint bringing drama right?

Teams dont authorize player's surgeries. Players usually inform their teams of injuries or surgery but they dont need their teams permission. And even if he informed the team of the surgery and they sent someone with him, do you think he would have been in the same room when the rape allegdly happened?

Also, I dont think that the trial was as big of a distraction as you are making it. The team won over 50 games....Won the Western Conference and made it to the Finals. Even if Kobe hadnt gotten in to trouble they probably would have lost to Detroit anyway.

Yea, they might have still lost to Detroit, but Kobe would have been a lot stronger if he hadn't had that droopy summer. He looked like Reggie Miller at the beginning of the season, and never did get in the game shape that he was in the previous year. It really was a distraction. If he were not in trouble, and in game shape, the Lake Show would have had more time to play those 4 guys together. I even think the cut finger was caused by the angry wife.

Point is, no players sneak out on their employers to do something that could be detrimental to the team, especially being under contract.

They dont have to give him permission, but I bet now he wish he did. No they wouldnt have been in the same room with him , but they wouldnt have been on another floor like his bodyguards were either. If he had told the team he probably wouldnt have even gone to Colorado.

The trial and all was a distraction to a degree and Kobe had baggage all season partly because of it. They lost to DET because DET knew the Lakers wouldnt play well together, adn Kobe screwed the team in game 5 especially, so it had nothing to do with them losing, but the entire season was drama filled, and it wasnt just Shaq and GP

When have you ever heard of a team assigning bodyguards or babysitters when a player goes for surgery? Also, had Kobe informed his team, he still goes to Colorado because the player chooses the surgeon not the team.

Never, and I didnt say they do, but they could have in this instance, because the L sends security with some players no matter where they go. That wasnt even the point of the topic. The truth is, i f they had known, they probably would have been involved in the process one way or another, being he is one of their biggest investments.
