Melo is the most selfish player I've ever watched.

I only saw Meloman 4 or 5 times last season, so I didn't really understand why he was catching so much heat from his teammates, but after watching all of these Olympic games, I can honestly say that Melo is flat-out selfish. It's one thing to be the main man on a team, and to be relied upon to carry the scoring load(ala T-Mac) but when you have the level of talent the Olympic team has and one guy consistently REFUSES to pass the rock...that really says something.

In the last game against Turkey, Melo had rookie Kobe-like shot selection. Bad fadeaways over 3 defenders? 3 on 1 breaks where he takes it coast to coast? There was one play where Melo was trapped on the left baseline by Okur and another big man, and STILL tried to break down the double before he grudgingly passed with a couple ticks on the shot clock. I don't think I've ever seen anyone less willing to pass the ball.

I can't wait for the fallout when Dre Miller decides to always feeds Kenyon on the break instead of Melo. Melo lead the NBA in fast break pts. and his scoring is gonna take a serious hit.

I liked Melo's game, but this series of games has opened my eyes a bit. Has anyone else noticed this?

I dunno, I never noticed him being selfish during the season or the training tour. He's been playing great except for the past 2 games. Also, I think Kobe's still King when it comes to selfishness, or maybe 'Toine.....

His numbers look good, but ask yourself why Melo is the #2 scorer on that team off the bench? He does not look to pass. Your right, Kobe was the exact same way. He's matured a ton though, and vey few off guards get as many assists as Bryant. Maybe he's just trying to prove himself on the world stage, maybe MJ has told him to step up his visibility to boost his shoe sales...who knows.

I just know that while LBrown keeps preaching teamwork and sharing the ball, and Team USA has responded by being almost TOO unselfish, passing up good shots...Melo is the only one who stands out as being too much of a 1-on-1 scorer.

wow interesting stat i never knew melo lead the league in fast break points. Well i've seen a little of some of the games and i have seen him pass on occasion. Then again i also saw him on the fast break, instead of passin to a teammate going for the layup and missing.
Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.

In his defense, he is one of the FEW actual "shooters" on the team...........and team USA are going to need shooters in the Olympics, when the other teams come with much more intense zone D's.

My *guess* is Larry Brown has told him to shoot as much as he likes. To get himself 'comfortable' within the offense.

I always thought he was a cocky and selfish guy ever since he was on Kimmel and said his biggest opponent is himself, and when he took credit for everything the Nuggets had done. Its like, we know youre the cause, but you dont have to be all arrogant about it.

Wrong, Larry Brown benched Carmelo after 7 minutes of play because he isn't playing like Larry Brown told him to. Some inside Sources said LB was giving Melo a brutal talk trying to set him straight and be more of a role player on this team.

HMcCoy, I definately understand where you are coming from with this thread. Melo has done nothing but be selfish while playing for the US. He wants to prove himself, but he has to understand that he is making himself look real bad out there trying to "get his". If he get's his while in the flow of the game, then great. But forcing shot after shot just isn't gonna cut it with LB, and I am glad. Meanwhile, Lebron and Wade are out there filling a position, and playing a role while helping their team. The most exciting team out there for the US is:

                        Iverson
                        Wade
                        Lebron
                        Boozer
                        Duncan

When they are out there together, they are great. Throw Marion in the mix, and he fits right in with them. The defensive intensity is there, the passing, the rotation, it is all there. RJ and Marbury have been playing decent ball, and Odom has been hustling and playing his game. Everyone but Melo has been playing team ball. Maybe he needs to reevaluate his situation here.

LOL...you have no clue to what your talking about. Mello is not a shooter at all. In fact he is shooting 38% from the field (2nd worst on the team), and 29% from the 3. It's funny cause AI who isn't considered a shooter is shooting 59% from the fg, and 47 % from 3. Mello has done anything else, his asst to TO ratio sucks hard, as he turns the ball over more than he gets asst.

He is a jock, and I'm glad larry pulled him. LB and POP aren't gonna go for that ish. He makes us worst. As I seen him take 3pts on fastbreaks, and take unadvised shots before his team can setup a play. He is terrible, and should be ripped, as he is getting back on D, and is get his *** handed to him by euro's, cause he's not playing ANY D.

This team has NO shooters, and the olympic commitee should be ripped for that. No Brent Barry's, no Kyle Korver's. Those guys are what you call "shooters." Not Mello.

I didn't like Maubury out there either. The euro guards were eating him alive, and he can't shoot to save his life. He's the worst shooter on the team. And his D is horrid. He gets good asst numbers, but those numbers are inflated, because when he's on the floor, the team is actually worst.

As for Kobe..."maturing"...that is a joke. He is a jock too, just not as bad. Don't be fooled by the numbers. Kobe only gives those asst to pad his stats. If he was so much of a "team player", why did Shaq leave and says he doesn't play as a "team player." Isn't that a contradiction?

Melo doesn't play the Larry Brown's way, the "right way", so he gets his assed benched, just like the last game in Turkey.

The best lineup I saw out there was

                            AI
                            WADE
                            RJ/LBJ
                            Marion
                            Duncan

We are almost automatic to win with that line up. Wade's physical D is very much liked and appreciated. Marion is quick with his back towards the basket, runs the floor, and blocks some shots. I like what I've seen from him. LBJ has been the last couple games as he runs the floor, passes, and has also been very physical. Same for RJ, tho I'd like for him to get a damn JUMPSHOT lol. AI needs to get more in his defenders tho, as he has been blown by too, because he gives too much space, but still, not as bad as Starbury.

LB puts the line up I've stated, will get the Gold.
