I remember reading something where one sugguestion was making only rookie contracts non guaranteed. Both first and second round picks. Then, after the rookie contract is up a player would get a guaranteed one. This would certainly make rookies earn their keep, but I doubt the Player's Union would agree to it.

Re: Possible Draft Solution...
Originally posted by BJNTI still think an age limit of at least 20 would be better. I would make it where all players who's 20th birthday is on the day of the draft or before that would be eligable. Players who are born after that would have to wait until next years draft. This way you still would get a few one and dones but the amount would be under control. And that should be the main focus of the rule to control the amount of underclassmen in the draft.Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.Comment

Thus, making the draft stronger as a whole and bringing in more rookies that can make an impact faster.Comment

Re: Possible Draft Solution...
This plan punishes guys like Okafor who get their college degree in three years.
Also, I think players will always choose money over college so the solution may have to be more something that would discourage GM's from drafting young kids than trying to make it look unappealing to become draftees. Making younger rookies CHEAPER may make things even worse than they are now because GM's would definitely choose the potential over paying more for an older guy.NBA 2K18 ratings for several seasons generated from advanced analytics using the SportsCrunch system:

As far as this thing being legal. It would be as legal as anything else the in the CBA, as it would have to be approved by the players union. I feel it works better than a 20 year age limit, as it gives younger players the option of going out for the team, but makes it less of a financial benefit.
Of course, it makes it easier to draft high school players as well, as there is less risk involved for the team, and honestly, even if a high school player gets hurt and never makes anything beyond that first year contract, he still has that $300,000 from his original contract, which can be used for an education, or just as a basis to start a life beyond basketball.Comment

Re: Possible Draft Solution...
You know, if a kid really doesn't want to go to college and there is an age limit. He can go play in the CBA or Europe. Hell, in Europe the kid can make 6 figures, have his room and board paid for, plus its tax free income. So if you are 18 and don't want to go to college, go play in Italy.Comment

Why don't just apply the same rule as in the NFL draft. Only eligible AFTER 2 years from HS graduation.
That means, if you finish HS and dont want to go to college, then go play overseas. You get payed good "tax free" money, even in second division leagues.Comment
