Re: Eastern Conference Playoffs - 1st Round Discussion Thread

you guys are making too big a deal of this

Olynyk intent was to take Love out of making a play, Love getting his arm dislocated just makes it looks worse. but it no different then bodychecking someone trying to go after a loose ball or pushing a player in the back when their attempting a layup/dunk

i dont see anyone arguing about oj mayo pushing taj gibson in the back and causing him to crash hard to the floor. refs reviewed the play and gave Mayo a flagrant foul and life moved on.
Kenny: Ok Vic, I'm ready for some girl on girl action.
Vic: No Kenny, that's girl versus girl.
    Kenny: What's the difference?
Vic: Well, in one, one girl wins. In the other....
    Kenny: Everyone wins?!?!

    Captain Tenneal: Get it on!

Re: Eastern Conference Playoffs - 1st Round Discussion Thread

Olynyk purposefully yanked locked up Love's arm and yanked it. That is clear. But I think he did so with the intent of keeping him away from the rebound; not to hurt him. Dirty play and unfortunate result, but I don't think Olynyk was trying to hurt him.

Perkins was clearly trying to send a message.

Crowder should have been called for a loose ball foul before JR reacted, but they let it go and JR eventually reacted and took it too far. Crowder was trying to get a reaction out of him IMO, but he wasn't expecting it to be a bitchslap to the face that caused his knee to buckle.

What Olynyk did was dirty? Yes. On purpose? No. That play goes on alot more than you think. If they called that out more often Bogut would be out of the league, they usually just go to the floor after.

Yeah if Olynyk didn't do that I'm sure the JR Smith incident doesn't happen? riiighhhhhhht.

The injury is just really unfortunate. hate to see that.

There was, at least, one flagrant foul I clearly remember from game 3 on Kyrie.

I don't know if the plan would start or end with LeBron or Kyrie, but I do know they managed to take Love out. Whether Olynyk was trying to hurt him or injure him, he definitely saw his chance and he took it. Absolutely bush league and he should see a hefty suspension because of it.

Watch it again and tell me he didn't try to do that on purpose.

You can even see him throw up his hands trying to get away with it.

Again, totally bush league by Olynyk.

Also take note of the ******* Celtics fans cheer.

I should probably stop talking about this before I say something I regret.

It goes too far when injuries out for a period of time occur. I don't believe anyone tries to go out and injure another player, but, when it's your team on the receiving end of the injuries, it's not good

I've seen at least twice where it affected the Bucks. Once when Laimbeer shove Krystkoviak to the floor and he came out of it with a torn ACL, done for the year. Stoudemire's push in the back to Bogut and Bogut was out for over a year with a dislocated elbow, broken hand and wrist.

It's probably best that Cavs fans avoid crying about bush league plays when they committed two acts that were 1000 times worse.

That Olynyk play happens 4-5 times a game across the league. Was it a foul? Sure. Was he intentionally trying to hurt him? Nah. As someone already eluded to, if players weren't allowed to do that guys like Bogut wouldn't even be able to play basketball. And I can almost guarantee Love has done something similar in the past. Guys get tangled, and it happens.

Perkins mushes a guys neck and face with an open palm, and JR right crosses the same guy and lays him out and we're calling Olynyk bush league? Come on now.

I didn't defend either Perkins or Smith. In fact, no one has. Both of those guys deserve the punishment they get.

Really, the Refs do deserve a large about of blame for the Smith incident, though. Crowder was leading up to it with overly physical play. Call the fouls, protect both players, otherwise you get cheap and incredibly dirty shots.

                    You're better than that, man.

                    "The refs deserve the blame"?

So because they didn't call the game tighter, that warrants hitting a guy in the face and neck multiple times?

Physical play should never warrant that type of retaliation. Ever. Both Smith and Perkins deserve multiple game suspensions at the very least.

I don't think he's saying JR's reaction was warranted. He's saying the reaction probably doesn't happen if the refs call a foul on Crowder before JR has a chance to react, which is probably true.

There are a lot of If/then scenarios that you could create throughout this game.

Don't we generally laud NBA officials for allowing guys to continue play in the playoffs? But because we have two children on the court that reacted in the manner that they did, now we need them to call the game even tighter? It's amazing that JR Smith is still even allowed to play basketball at this point.

Were the Celtics playing physical? Absolutely. Were they playing dirty or getting out of hand? No, not even close.

                        <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dxyWn2AiORY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Other than the initial contact (even JR initiates this), I don't see a foul here. I see two guys jockeying for position in the midst of a playoff game, and one guy butthurt because he's getting muscled across the paint.

I agree with everything you said here.

The refs, however, DIDN'T take control, so the players began to get more and more chippy and it's only logical that players begin to do stupid things.

Thats what cavs fans are complaining about? Yall made it sound like olynyk walked up to love and just pulled on his arm till it dislocated. Ive seen this play a million times, was it a little overaggressive, probably. But i dont think it was as bad as some guys made it out to be, i just think it looks worse cuz love got hurt.
