Re: 2015 Offseason Thread
I know most of you were waiting to pounce as are others, but whoever didn't see the LMA news coming idk what to tell you. He wasn't realistic to begin with barring something extreme happening. What the hell do the Lakers have to offer a FA who is nearing the end of their prime other than hope? At that point you're looking for something concrete and factual, and currently the young guys haven't even played to give anyone a sense of what they can do. And until that happens, the Lakers will miss out on the bigger fish. This day and age guys join established talent so this is why I said over two years ago the only way to do this is to build through the draft. I don't fault Philly for doing what they are doing (outside of the 3 billion C's). They know that's the only way to become a contender again in the current climate.Comment

Re: 2015 Offseason Thread
In case there's any confusion for anyone that's reading about these deals, no one has actually signed. They can't until next week. These are all hand-shake deals.
And anyone that's being re-signed isn't going to sign those papers until their team can use their cap space on free agents. Under the CBA, you can go over the cap to re-sign your own players with Bird Rights.
So the Spurs for example won't be announcing Danny Green's or Duncan's deal until after they announce Aldridge (assuming he goes to San Antonio).
Or better yet, Phoenix won't announce Brandon Knight until after they announce Tyson Chandler's deal."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Note from a traveling @ramonashelburne: While Aldridge was undeniably cool on Lakers' pitch source says LMA hasn't formally told LA it's out
but im sure he's out thoComment

Right.

It's not that simple. Guys like Duncan basically need to re-sign first because his cap hold far outweighs what he's going to actually sign for I believe. Whereas guys like Leonard and Green's cap holds are significantly smaller than what they're signing for, so they'll wait until Aldridge signs (if he signs).
