Were Pelicans/Hornets one of the teams that was suppose to have lost money a few years ago and there was talk that NBA might have to take them over?

Anyways, he must like the new coach. The ownership situation might have alienated some players.

New Orleans survived the loss of Baron Davis and Chris Paul. If it loses Davis in 6 years, that could be brutal for the franchise.

Apparently in the first pitch, Kobe tried to convince Aldridge how good Kupchak was at building rosters by:

Aldridge reportedly wanted more of a basketball focus during the presentation. Since the Lakers couldn’t offer too much on the talent standpoint, it had to sell promise and opportunity. Kobe Bryant tried to convince Aldridge of the Lakers’ commitment to to winning by bringing up the infamous vetoed trade, according to Bleacher Report’s Kevin Ding:

Bryant didn’t stop there: He brought up the blocked Chris Paul trade to Aldridge as even greater proof of Mitch Kupchak’s team-building brilliance.

Through the failed trade, Bryant looked to show Mitch Kupchak’s ability to do amazing things to build championship-ready rosters. Kupchak has had a tough time since. He was able to acquire Steve Nash and Dwight Howard months after the ordeal and took another calculated risk. Obviously, it didn’t go according to plan with the Lakers and Kupchak still trying to pick up the pieces.
The Los Angeles Lakers have had a rough start to the free agency period. Despite being the first team to meet with LaMarcus Aldridge, team officials failed to convince him that Los Angeles was the best fit him. — Have you seen the ‘Bleed Purple and Gold’ phone case? — Aldridge reportedly wanted more of […]

Whatever helps you sleep at night man lol. I'm not "puffing my chest" about a 3 seed, but I realize only one team can win a championship every year. As long as your team is putting itself in position to have the chance to be that team on a year to year basis, you can't be ALL mad at where you're at. Being one of the 5 worst teams in the league trying to throw shots at a legit playoff team because they didn't win a championship either that year is lame man. Get outta here with that nonsense.

For KG,that's more understandable since he left cause he wanted to win. Wolves were going downhill during his final 3 years(around a 30 win team). No point staying with them at that point.

Same reason I didn't mention VC leaving Raptors. Raptors were in horrible shape then, and management forced him out. Some Raptor fans still might paint VC as a villain, but I say it's 99% managements fault,1% VCs fault. Bosh left cause of Lebron/Wade. McGrady left cause he was immature then(he basically admitted it after he retired, thats a decision he regrets) and Raptors got ripped off cause I don't believe RFA rules were the same then?

That's why I mentioned one like Lebron leaving 60+ win Cavs, Paul leaving 45+ win Hornets team to join struggling Clippers, Howard leaving 50+ win Magic team, and so on. Star players, leaving playoff teams, to go to bigger markets. Not very often it happens the other way around.

The NBA did take them over but was sold to the Saints owner Tom Benson. Through his agent he said he trusted the organization and Gentry was just the icing on the cake.

Things are looking up for the organization if they can capitalize on this past season and now offseason

Isn't it all the same reason? They left their team to win.

If McGrady had a chance to go home and play with Grant Hill while getting the max, and possibly Tim Duncan which Tim considered, it was hardly an immature decision.

Yall Raptor fans are funny. I understand his regrets with no seeing what could've been with that team though.

Maybe he was immature lol but the Vince situation didn't help anyone feel that way

That's such a misconception though. The Knicks have never been able to draw big name free agents. Ever. The only guy we've ever signed is Amare and it's because we gave him a bigger and longer deal than anyone else. Money talked, that was it. No MJ, no LeBron, no Duncan, no Grant Hill or Jason Kidd back in the day.

LAL was a great situation for a long time but as you know everyone important they acquired was via draft or trade. Since Shaq 20 years ago what big name free agent has gone to the Knicks or Lakers? The media acts like they're the Yankees and this is MLB.

It's always been about money and if that's even then the tie breaker is how good the situation is, not how big the market is.

The Knicks have been a joke for a long time and no free agents have wanted to go there. The Lakers were a model franchise for a long time but now they're essentially on par with the Knicks and they can't sign anyone. The Clippers and Nets were awful for long stretches and no one wanted to go live in LA or NY to play for those organizations. MIL has been a mess forever but now they have a nice young core and a good young coach. It's an attractive basketball situation. That's what's changed, not how players choose their FA destination.
For the Bucks and the fans, it was a big breakthrough. I wouldn't compare it to a Wilt the Stilt signing, but huge nonetheless because of the Bucks past. And, the Bucks have always had the winter weather hanging over their head ever since Kareem demanded to be traded because of the winter weather and it wasn't a big enough market for him.

So, yes, the Bucks have been mired in mediocrity and below on the court for many years, but the reputation of Milwaukee also added to the equation.

For what it's worth, Monroe's agent said every team offered a max deal anywhere from 1 to 4 years, Milwaukee won out for the reasons you mentioned, more playoff ready vs the other teams involved.
