Re: OS NBA Players Rating: Player #2 - Ben Wallace

Ehh, he's a good player but I mean Marcus Camby average more blocks, points, and rebounds per 48 minutes than Wallace did. Wallace cant shoot free throws. Camby isnt looked at as an 8 or 9, hell even a 7 or 6 probably. So Wallace is a 5.

Would that be a good enough explanation?

Solid 8, defense wins games and his rebounding wins titles! He would be a 10 if he could score 25 ppg

To even put Ben Wallace and Camby in the same league is the most clueless comparison that I have ever seen. You're basing your assertion on a per 48 statistic that is completely irrelevent.

I hope, but do not expect, that everyone takes rating points away from other players who do not play Defense.

I gave Ben an 8. He changes teams approach to playing the Pistons so much. IF he is not blocking shots he is altering them every time someone comes in the lane. He is the best help side defender I have seen in years. His rebounding is awesome. He always has a nose for the ball and plays on 10 from the opening tip to the final buzzer.

I will be real interested to see how people rank the players who put up 20 pts a game but do not rebound or play defense. Everyone thinks that to be a great player you have to average a ton of points.

He is a great defender no doubt about it.
But he has no offensive moves at all! Most of his low 10 ppg come from offensive rebounds that lead to putbacks. He also is a liability in late game situations because he cant hit FT's. Dont get me wrong I wouldnt mind him playing for my Pacers but I think he is one of the most over rated players in the NBA. I know people are going to say he cant be over rated cause he just won a championship, but he was just one of many reasons why they won it all.

So, is Shaq a 5 or 6??? He is a liability late in games. He gets half his points on Offensive Rebounds (which by the way is not true of Ben).

Don't forget Shaq gets less rebounds too.

It is not suprising to me that this latest argument comes from a Pacers fan. Not that Pacer fans are not knowledgeable but because the Pistons\Pacers are starting to create a nice little rivalry. which in turn will create some jealousy
