My only beef with the Conley deal, is Lillard is making less. Good for Portland, but we all know who's better, and has more upside out of those two.

Thought it was a good deal for the Lake show getting Deng, all things considered.

Oh and a Lockout is/was coming regardless of how much guys got paid. We all said this right after the last lockout ended that they'd be right back in the same position 4 years later.
I already stated what I thought should happen: keep the current cap system while removing the salary restrictions. Although, I'm not naive enough to believe that would prevent a stupid GM from over spending to sign a mediocre player.

A lockout was inevitability, but this inflated cap and absurd signing period will make it happen much, much faster.

Sucks that we'll miss basketball in October, November and December next year because of greedy owners and stupid GM's.

I am betting we see an amnesty clause in the next collective bargaining agreement.
That's the way I'm trying to look at it. It's just weird seeing these type of contracts in the NBA.

But in the MLB you can be a mediocre pitcher of course, and get money thrown at you, just because everyone needs inning eaters.

Anyway, the Mavericks losing Parsons leaves a huge, huge gap at SF on their roster.

They need to sign a starter and back up with these insane rates. Good luck, Mark Cuban!

Both sides can opt out of the current deal by December but it's been known all along that that the Players would opt out because they got screwed over in the last CBA and will be looking for "payback" basically.

So this one is on the players.

Actually I've been seeing that the owners have already said they're opting out. So this one is on the owners again since the players haven't said what they're doing yet.

What's the logic behind max contracts anyway? Especially in basketball, where 1 player can completely change your team and therefore should logically be able to command more of your cap than anyone else.

Max contracts needs a new name for the NBA, because what it ends up being is just paying your own guy to make sure he doesn't leave.

The logic on the owners side is that if you put all your chips in on the wrong guy you could cripple your franchise. (See Derrick Rose)

For the rank and file NBA player it means the owners are forced to spread the sugar around so average players are now paid ridiculous amounts.

It's going to take a lot of flexibility on both sides to create a system that makes sense. I'm all for the players getting their share of the pot, but the current system is screwed up.

The National Basketball Players Association negotiated a drop in their percentage of basketball related income from 57 percent to 49-51 percent.

“I can certainly appreciate why (the players) are not happy," said Michele Roberts. "That’s a lot of money. And it’s hard for me to be critical because I wasn’t in the room, so I cannot say that it was something that was avoidable. But it’s certainly not a happy turn of events, and I get why the players are not of the view that they came out winners.”

With the NBA signing a new television deal and becoming incredibly more profitable than they were in 2011, the NBPA is preparing to opt out of the current collective bargaining agreement when that option becomes available in 2017.

“We are preparing to opt out. I mean it’s not my call., because unlike Billy I don’t think I run the union. This union is run by the executive committee, I serve at their pleasure, and I do what they command I do. I advise, and I will recommend. But at the end of the day, it’s not Michele Roberts saying to the executive committee: ‘Look, guys, get ready. We’re opting out.’ It doesn’t work that way. So it’s not my call, but in the event the call is made, we will be ready. And we are preparing to opt out.”
                          Another article from Deadspin:

And this is the most recent article regarding players opting out:

That's not to say that what you're saying is inaccurate or not true but what I'm saying is that from the time the last lockout ended and we seen the details and how the players got screwed back then, even at the time, we knew that at least the players were going to opt out and take back what they gave up to the owners.

Who knows, maybe it might be different with Lebron running things this time around compared to Derek Fisher.

Yep. I think he should go to Boston. That team would be solid.
Has he ever played another position besides center post college?

Conley is going to make roughly $600 000 a week during the next 5 years. Living the life.
