re: 2016 NBA Offseason Thread
From the draft thread, but probably fits here better now.
I've thought it over and I still don't care for the trade, but I'm not as angry as I first was. How much we got back for what we gave away and your last statement about Ibaka's contract are the main things bothering me.
I like Oladipo a lot, but assuming Fournier is going to be re-signed (and if he gives us more of his early season production from last year, he should be starting), that is the one position we could stand to move some pieces in. Dipo and Payton also don't fit too well as a backcourt.
But with Dipo's potential, I don't know why the hell we're sending two players and a draft pick for just Ibaka. That doesn't make any sense.
We're banking on Ibaka becoming the rim protector (been a glaring hole on our roster) he was a couple years ago. Maybe he can do it under Vogel who's likely to emphasize that. Problem is, if he's a 1-year rental it doesn't really matter at all.
I think we'll have to see what Orlando does in free agency to fully evaluate if this trade made any sense. Still kind of hard to stomach right now.
Oladipo is going into his 4th season in the NBA after being in college for 3 years...I think his potential is a bit overrated at this point of his career and what you see is what you're likely to get, sans maybe slightly better shooting. If everyone was expecting for him to turn into a Wade-type player, that was never going to happen...he had his chances and never made that next big step.
Fournier is a far better shooter than Dipo and the Magic still have Hezonja ready to produce, but I think they still need another creating/scoring vet wing in the interim.
Ibaka is the rim protector that the team has been missing since Dwight was traded. He'll be a great fit next to Vucevic where he can mask/hide some of Vucevic's defensive main deficiencies (rim protection, pick-and-roll D). Ibaka will likely get back to being more of a defensive anchor than he was in OKC with the emergence of Adams. Ibaka was being asked to do a lot of other different things both on the offensive and defensive side. He reportedly wasn't happy there, which could have been because of his changing/lessening role there and thus his decrease in overall production. Not concerned about being on the last year of his contract...Orlando has his Bird rights and can pay the most if need be/everything works out at the end of next season and when the cap jumps again.
No one should be concerned about Ilyasova being included in the deal...he was going to be waived for cap space one way or another. Not a huge deal with the #11 2016 pick (this isn't Arvydas we're talking about here) as the team doesn't need any more young guys with how young this team is already, but maybe they should have tried for a future 1st in return...that would be my biggest gripe with the other pieces.XBL & PSN: zasbury25Comment

re: 2016 NBA Offseason Thread
Nets, Mavericks, and Thunder are the teams trying to steal Lance Thomas away from the Knicks. He's best friends with KD. One of my many theories for this offseason is after leaving OKC Lance has been talking **** about them in KD's ear and finally getting him to make the move. It's worth mentioning that all of my theories for this offseason involve KD signing to the Knicks.
Side note, anyone else get super annoyed when one of these writers tweets news and adds in "FWIW"? So dumb, David Aldridge did this last night about a potential end to the talks between Chicago and Minnesota. For what its worth? You're the reporter, you're supposed to determine based on your sources what that information you just got is worth and then let us know. Just couldn't be any more transparent that some of these dudes have no idea what's going on and are getting information about as reliable as ours in some cases.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

I still have no idea who the Nets actually plan to go after in FA. Which is different because when King was here, there was a different story/leak everyday about who they're going after, who they're supposedly trading for, etc.#RespectTheCultureComment

I'm most interested to see what kinds of deals these guys end up getting. I was never any good at assessing value before but in a league where Bismack Biyombo could command 15 mil, numbers just don't mean anything to me anymore.
I do have a question for King or any of the Bulls fans in the house, what's Joakim Noah got left? I see a lot of chatter about interest from both sides.Last edited by DieHardYankee26; 06-24-2016, 11:23 AM.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

If bismack gets 15 mill it makes us paying dragic 15 mill look good by comparison

Also curious to see what Bazemore might get too.
If Carroll got $12(?)Mil from Toronto, then I can see Baze getting between $13-15 Mil.#RespectTheCultureComment

Man these are the numbers you get when you take all the good players out of a roster in 2k so guys like baze and bismack are getting 10+

re: 2016 NBA Offseason Thread
Seeing Oladipo go was tough to see as he's been the heart and soul of the team the past few seasons, but the log jam on the wing was something that needed to be addressed. Like you said, Elf and Dipo were never going to fit together...you can't have two guards that can't really shoot in your starting backcourt. It was no coincidence that the team made a run in Nov-Dec when Victor was coming off the bench and Evan was starting at the 2.
Oladipo is going into his 4th season in the NBA after being in college for 3 years...I think his potential is a bit overrated at this point of his career and what you see is what you're likely to get, sans maybe slightly better shooting. I don't get why the trade was so highly praised.
Is Oladipo even better than Dion Waiters? Legit question. I'd say Waiters is better (not by much) but this isn't the type of move that gets OKC over the hump.
I really like Sabonis. But the trade IMO is more about balancing out the roster with young pieces in case they can't re-sign Durant or Westbrook. That's how the OKC front office operates.
And I still don't understand why they matched Kanter but didn't want to pay Ibaka next year. Younger? To me that's kinda crazy.Comment

Yep, it's a brave new world. Going to be a lot of shock and laughter at some of these deals but it's going to be nice to get a baseline for what we'll be seeing over the next several years."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Because Kanter is better offensively. His IQ on pick and rolls is excellent, while Ibaka's is poor. He's every bit the shooter Ibaka is, if not better, and he's got better touch inside to go with better post footwork.
They aren't spending money on Ibaka just to get a shot blocker while they have Adams on the roster. Especially since Adam's may have proved to be a better hedge guy during this years playoffs.
Also doesn't help that Ibaka has the build, length, potential to be an elite rebounder but doesn't get rebounds. His contract vs output is pretty awful despite what his build and potential seemed to indicate he would become. Dude hasn't improved as a player in like 5 seasons now.
