Re: OS NBA Players Rating: Player #8 - Elton Brand

The fact that Brand is considered a superstar/elite-player and the fact that he is being paid as one should mean that he would be able to lead his team to the playoffs, or at least a decent record but that is not the case. I am not questioning Brand's playing skills but I am questioning his ability to be a leader and to be a top-tier player. I just don't see it with him for the sole fact that he can NOT lead the Clippers to a 30-win season.

Don't get to see too much of him out here, but I don't consider him an "elite" player. Consistent, but not elite IMHO. That's just me though.
People love to pump out stats but it's quite easy to put up good numbers on a losing team. Someone has to score and someone has to rebound. He's consistent at it, but I don't see him in the upper echelon of PFs in the league.

The Clippers were 18-20 last year when their starting lineup was on the floor, not even when they were healthy. When they were healthy, the team was over .500.

Quentin, Jaric, Wilcox, and Simmons all issed 17+ games, Brand and Maggette missed 13 and 9 games respectively, and the team had no real PG because Jaric is more of a scorer, no bench after Wilcox, and maybe Simmons, and were plagued with injuries.

The year before that, the starters missed a combined 117 games, Kandi played 36, Odom 49, Brand 62, and Maggette 64, the lone survivor was Andre Miller playing 80 games.
Even the bench was injured, Q-Rich played 59 games, Piatakowski 62, Jaric 66, Ely 52, and Wilcox 46 games only.
The team has Fowlkes back again, and starting 10 games too, and Cherokee Parks and Sean Rooks starting.

Brand's first year as a Clipper, they did really good for what they had, they had a good record half way through, and even though they lost Odom who only played 25 games, and Maggette who played 63 games, they played well, were 9th in the West, and had a 39-42 record. Kandi-Brand-Maggete (Folwkes- Injury replacement)-Piatkowski and McInnis started and were able to pull through with Miles and Q-Rich coming off the bench.

Also add to the fact that in the super injury year they weren't playing like a team because a lot of the guys wanted to get their own so they could get contracts. If you think it's Brand's fault this team has been doing bad, then I don't know what to say, guess you don't know about Clippers management.

I don't understand when people say it's easy to put up numbers on a bad team in some cases, if Brand was taking 20 shots a game okay, but he's the second most efficient scoring star PF, and if his team is bad then their's no one spreading the floor or taking the defense from him, if you score 20 on a bad team shooting 38% then yes, but that's not what he's doing.

Ray Allen, J-Rich, Joe Johnson, and Amare were also putting up numbers on a "bad team", but no one says anything about that.

Hardly anyone sees Brand play, and people have no clue what kind of player he is, they think he just goes out there trying to stat stuff, he's one of the best defensive PF's, top 3 along with Tim Duncan and Zach Randolph in terms of post moves, get's to the line, is a very efficient scorer, blcoks shots, is always working and hustles on the floor like he's a scrub even though he's a star player on the team, and all this at 6'8. If he got to leave LA, or if the management/ownership actually cared hed get a lot more respect.

I agree with this post. Injuries are injuries.

After watching Boozer this year, I've learned to appreciate a hard-working, low-flash PF, and from what I've seen of Brand, he fits that mold to a tee, with even more scoring ability. These guys may not take over a game every night...but the dirty work will ALWAYS be on lock. I also like how phyisical the kid is. Gets to the line, makes his FT's.

                        I give him an 8.

He is consistent, but he doesn't put fear in the eyes of other players. He does his job, and he does it very good, but he doesn't make the players around him better, and doesn't seem like the type to lead a team.

                        Great player though.
