Re: POLL: Thoughts on refs swallowing their whistles at the end of games?
I have to disagree big time with Harden yes drawling fouls is a skill but he gets so many fouls called when there is zero contract that not one other player would get in the NBA. There have been years where the amount of FT makes he has per game is higher then the second highest player in the NBA attempts per game gets and for him to have more makes then any other player has attempts per game is just straight up bs. Also when it comes to the whole myth of most superstar players getting calls there is a reason that star players tend to get more FT attempts. 1 They are harder to stop then a average NBA player so they are going to has a result drawl more contact and beat defenders more often then your average player. 2 Because they are better they are going to be playing more minutes and with playing more minutes that is more chances for them to drawl contact. 3 Kind of goes with the first 2 but because of those things they are going to be shooting more often so again more chances to be fouled. Also playing style makes a difference. If you look at some one like Curry he shoots more jump shoots then some one like Harden and you tend to get fouled more when you are driving then when you take jump shoots.Comment

Re: POLL: Thoughts on refs swallowing their whistles at the end of games?
You have pretty much made my point for me. Harden has led the league in minutes played regularly, has a game that is largely based on driving to the rim, seeks out contact, has traditionally shot close to a 90% clip from the line (which makes the makes vs. attempts argument less impressive), and is very hard to stop on the offensive end... Popovich recently stated Houston is the only team he watches game tape of this time of year and it's specifically because of Harden. He's arguably one of the hardest covers in the NBA and when you combine that with his minutes, being a good FT shooter (he shoots all the Ts, end of game FTs, etc) and him seeking out contact... yeah. I'm not going to say there are times he gets calls that he shouldn't (As with every player), but I think people crying about Harden don't actually watch the games but instead look at the box score and see how many free throws he shoots.
I watch the games and he gets more bs calls then any other player in the NBA if not he would be getting like 2-3 less foul shoots a game if he got the same calls that ever other player in the NBA does. He is not the only player to ever seek contact and be good at getting contact and to drive to the basket like that before. When he is averaging like 11 foul shots a game and the second closet is like 9 then yeah that is messed up.Comment

Where did you get the FTA figures from? link below has this season. Note the FTA percentage, Harden is only shooting 84% FT this season.

I was not talking about % I was talking about FTA and this year it is not has bad but there have been at least 2 years where he had more FTA then any other player had even makes.Comment

Did you type that correctly, your saying he had more FTA than any other player had makes? That's kind of obvious unless someone shot more than 100% or had way more attemptsComment

Re: POLL: Thoughts on refs swallowing their whistles at the end of games?
lol I did say that backwards. There where years where he had more makes then any other player had FTA. There where some years where he made like 9.5 a game or something and the most FTA by any player outside of him was like 9.3 or something. Also if you look at a guy like LJ. He has had 3 season where he had 10 or more FTA a game for a season where Harden on the other hand has 4 season if it stays above that this year and it is right now and I cant stay a younger LJ was easier to keep out of the paint then Harden or didn't drive the ball a lot. Yes now LJ shoots less foul shoots then he used to because he shoots more jump shoots then he used to but when he was younger I would say he was the hardest guy of all time to keep out of the paint and not foul yet if you look at him and Harden there highest FTA per game in a season is about the same 10.3 for LJ and 10.2 for Harden.Comment

But I digress. I can't convince you that there may be reasons to explain Harden's insane FT numbers other than "superstar treatment" (minutes played, driving to the rim, seeking contact, hard to stop, shoots a high clip, blah blah) so I have to ask you, why James? Why is he the ONLY player who gets superstar calls. Is it because the Houston Rockets are America's team? Because James is so universally loved by fans of the game? If the numbers aren't based on contact created on the court, then why haven't owners and other players/coaches expressed outrage over this blatant favoritism. All I hear opponents say is what a tough cover he is and how he's so good at creating contact and making people pay for reaching/swiping. I feel if there's this blatant a bias people in the NBA (not is fans) would be in an uproar, certainly not praising him and he CERTAINLY would not be the inaugural players choice for the MVP of the league.Comment
