edit: I actually think this team will be better without shaq, becuase now teams will have to work in the half court game rather then turning it into a track meet, which is where the lakers couldn't win. I mean record wise they many not be better, but i highly doubt they would have beaten the t-wolves or spurs. So in this case they have to take a step (or two) back in order to move forward because it was clear that they had pretty much reached their peak. If this team can somehow trade for a better 1 or 4 i think they will be able to do some damage.

Re: With no Shaq...
i don't really care how the rockets are doing to be honest with you. I mean as long as the suns play their game they should be able to do well enough to make the playoffs. I actually think the lakers would have lost worse to the spurs without shaq, because then the spurs would have run at will. The only thing is that the spurs could pretty much drive and kick out as much as they wanted to.Originally posted by driddy

Truth be told, Manu might have done that even if Shaq was there. Remember, Shaq isn't the dominant shot blocker he could be, many times he is rooted to the floor.
I loved the effort last night, the guys battled to the end, cant wait to see how they play when the starters are all healthy enough to go. Atkins is struggling, but I agree Parker is a tough cover. As long as Atkins keeps him honest on defense and contests every shot I'm happy. What I did not like were the passes inside that weren't getting picked off. Whenever Nesterovic or Duncan caught the ball at the top of the key they would slip it inside for a quick two. That can't happen. The pass has to be deflected, picked off or defended in some manner.

Re: With no Shaq...
haha no, back on topic though
i like chucky atkins in the last game, he just has to remember the new rules the league has about putting your hand on the offensive player as they drive, his defense was pretty good, remember even gary payton last year got super torched by tony parker
he hit big threes, big shots, lakers definately are weak at the PG spot, i think they need a ron harper/brian shaw type player at PG, a veteran thats able to stabilize things (perhaps thats even atkins, havent seen it in him yet though)
also lakers are better definately at playing defense (potentially)
they still dont have a feel for each other, and they don't talk on defense yet, all signs that they're young as a team (meaning they haven't played too much with each other)
all the breakdowns that lead to layups by the spurs could have been prevented by someone yelling "GET DUNCAN" or yelling "I GOT DUNCAN" or smarter switches...(like if there's duncan and a Uldrich or watever, and you have to switch, don't switch off of duncan and onto Uldrich)
the lakers have got all the big pieces, its just the little things that are screwing them over, like turn overs and stuff, a lot of them were just due to like the lack of concentration by players, they were turnovers that could have easily been avoided
and the lakers actually outrebounded the spurs, its just those CRUCIAL rebounds that the lakers didn't, once again showing their youth
lakers are looking good though, they just gotta play a little smarter, and do the little things at the right time, and they'll surely get that with time, get more games under their belt playing with their existing roster
cause i mean adding 9 new players to the team is a BIIIG change, and only 3-4 or something are returning from the season where they last won a championship, so they just gotta have some time to get a feel for each other, find out what their teammates do/can do, what they like to do/don't like to doComment

Re: With no Shaq...
agreeddd he'd be an immediate starter, and get lots of playing time
perhaps a trade involving rush, cook, jumaine jones, for dalembert and willie green or kyle korver or something like that
the lakers would have that shot blocking presence that would cause others to think twice about driving (even though lakers have players that can block shots, the opposing teams just dont think of them in that way, so they arent intimidated by them)Comment
