When you cut through the noise, it's a pretty good gig. Phil was just a moron.

      1. Hands off, deep pocketed owner that doesn't mind paying the tax.
      2. Porzingis.
      3. Future draft assets aren't that tied up.
      4. An expendable coach you can give a true evaluation and determine if you want to keep.
      5. It's NYC.

They should be able to attract a decent candidate.

There's the Melo issue and Noah is a sunk cost but no job is perfect.

They better not. I don't see why Ujiri would leave the Raptors. He loves it in the city and basically has full control over everything here. He's president, but is basically GM too, and has all the guys he likes around him in management.

The current meme is to label the Triangle an outdated, fossil of an offensive, but while watching a lot of Bulls videos over the last few weeks, I could easily see how it could be tweaked to incorporate the increased emphasis on 3pt shooting, greater spacing, and high screen and roll concepts in today's game. There would be open shots galore, but I don't think that Phil had the energy or humility to put in the work that would have been necessary to modify the offense in a way that would get the coaches and players on board.

Also, as much as I loathe conspiracy theories, it's hard not to think that Phil has been trying very hard to get fired for months now.

What's the benefit of him trying to get fired? Does he not get paid if he resigns?

Impossible with Carmelo holding the ball for an eight count every time he gets a touch. Porzingis doesn't have the lower body strength to hold deep post position which eliminates many options too.

The goal in basketball is to get the ball as close to the basket as possible. Three point shooting.....yes it matters some. Look at Golden State, how many layups do they get off of dive cuts? A ton. That is an even bigger factor than their three-balling.

Nope, if he resigned he wouldn't get the dough.

This part was only true for Phil and something he was adament about before taking the job. No one prior had that luxury, which is why us fans were optimistic.

True but you'd think Dolan enjoyed not being the media's punching bag for once. Any new PBO should request the same autonomy.

I feel the opposite. He was the punching bag for years, finally had a chance to stay out of the way, calls fans alcoholics and tells them to cheer for the team across town, gets into an altercation with a franchise great, and fires Phil. I would think Dolan hated not being the media's punching bag and he's coming back for his throne with a vengeance.

And there's also the incident with Oakley from earlier in the year too.

While this may be true, it also needs to be noted that GS gets those plays because of their three-balling. They move the ball well, have players who will move well, but in large part it all opens up because teams are forced to over play everything, forced to switch or even double every ball screen, forced to run out at everyone on the court.
