That's one of if not the weakest and laziest takes in sports though. Players that fall back on the "never played the game so can't criticize" defense are clowns. Everybody has played basketball at some point or another in our lives. Unfortunately not all of us were ever tall enough, or good enough or had a body hold up well/long enough for any of us to play professionally. That does not suddenly nullify your opinions or make you incapable of learning the game and being able to watch it be played and know what's being done right or wrong on the court. It's a cheap, copout excuse that dudes use to deflect usually valid criticisms of their games.

Nah he's not just throwing out a quote and leaving it there. He's having fun trash talking and discussing with those guys.

Said criticism is fair but the media guys dont like it when they get criticized.

All the media members tweeting him with stories of glory from high and middle school made it a lot of fun. He isn't taking it too seriously, neither are they.

                  Re: 2017 Offseason Thread

New Minnesota Timberwolves acquisition Jimmy Butler got creative in his introductory news conference with his new team on Thursday after a reporters asked him about “shots fired” by some people from his past, including former Chicago Bulls teammate Antoine Walker, who called Butler a “bad locker room guy.”

Butler grinned as the reporter spoke, then laid out what might be the most creative rebuttal any athlete’s ever uttered at a news conference. He said he wasn’t frustrated by the comments, and in fact, called criticism of him “expected.” It was what Butler said next, though, that will make this one of the more memorable NBA introductory news conferences of all time.

“Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but with that being said, my phone’s in my back pocket right now if whoever has anything to say to me, feel free,” he said. Then he gave out what he claimed was his personal phone number.

It’s highly unlikely Butler gave out the same number his friends and family use to call him. After all, Paul Pierce taught us NBA players often carry two phones at a time.

What we know, however, is the number he gave out did send callers to a voice mail of a man claiming to be Butler. However, the message seems to indicate Butler was prepared to give out the number before the news conference.

“This is Jimmy Butler. Sorry I couldn’t get to the phone, but leave your name and number and I’ll hit you,” the voice said, before adding, “If you got any beef, definitely leave a message.”

No surprise, minutes after he gave out the number, the mailbox was already full.

In more Jimmy Butler news, someone asked him how he found out he was traded. He goes, I was in Paris, playing spades with D Wade and Gabrielle Union, Melo was my partner, and my agent called me and told me what happened. And then we won in Spades.

                        Love the guy.

Antoine Walker is Jimmy's former teammate with the Chicago Bulls? That's news to me.

It was a typo but in the article link itself, it provides the link to his comments which were this:

Former NBA All-Star Antoine Walker says that Jimmy Butler created a divided locker room in Chicago last season.

In a recent ESPN interview, Walker claims that Butler did a poor job of leading the Bulls off the court, resulting in his draft day trade to the T-Wolves.

“He’s just a bad locker room guy. A lot of outbursts took place throughout the season, with the coaches, with the players.

“You try to build something, especially in Chicago, and he’s going to be your best player, he has to be a leader on and off the court.

“And and did a poor example of that. I think that’s why the Bulls kind of parted ways with him.”
I'll let you decide if he's talking nonsense or not since you're closer to that situation.

Yeah during the live presser they actually mentioned criticisms by Antoine Walker by name.

I thought that was kinda funny but Jimmy didn't care.
