Yes because 17 years of ineptitude in the front office is exactly the reason to keep people hired in their positions.

This was also a challenge for Phil Jackson, if people recall. He wanted to rebuild the entire front office and Dolan wouldn't allow it.

I don't see it happening and I hope for Griffin's sake he stays far away from the Garden.

I wonder what Raptors next move will be. They got 4C and 4PG on roster. 5C if you stretch Ibaka to C. Hamilton would be harder to move due to his 3M salary while being a 3rd string big man. They are 2.7m under the luxury tax as well now.

Might we see something big like JV + Joseph for a starting forward. Or smaller move like Vanvleet or Wright + Hamilton or Poeltl for a young backup forward? At very least I'd wanna see Joseph+Hamilton for a backup PF/SF and then sign a backup SG/SF.

That 10m trade exception will be interesting to see how they end up using it if they do.

Toronto is finalizing a sign-and-trade with Indiana to move Cory Joseph for CJ Miles, league sources tell ESPN.
Miles will also sign a 3 year, $25 Mil deal with Toronto.

Salary issues. Raptors paying him like 10m more per year than he's worth.

As for the latest trade, I like it. Wright and VV can backup Lowry. Miles and Powell can split between starting SF and 6th man role(SF/SG backup). Miles hopefully helps in this role more than Ross did.

I'm sure there's another deal out there with one of the Centers they got(one of them + Siakam for a better bench PF) . And then maybe a FA signing too.

Raptors really doing a 3 year plan. CJ if he picks up option would expire same as Lowry, DeRozan, Ibaka.

Nice move by the Raps, I wouldn't of minded having Miles as the starting two on the Lakers.

It's a contract negotiation and players have agents, too. They don't just auto-sign whatever the team thinks is appropriate. This IT situation has a lot of moving parts and he has quite a bit of leverage. If he gets a max offer elsewhere, letting him walk would not be a good look for Boston.

I get that, but I wouldn't max him. I honestly don't even believe that night in and night out he's their best player. I think in many games Horford has the most overall impact. Obviously the nights IT is hot and there isn't anything you can do to stop him he's giving them something that not many players in the league can. But I don't ever see him having a year like he had last year again, and that's the only year of his career that would make it even debatable that he could get that big of a deal.

I would offer him a healthy deal, but if he's threatening to leave when he's not making Steph, Harden like numbers then I would happily let him go. They've got a better fit for a sustained "star player" now that Gordon has signed. Point guards are the most readily available position to fill. Even if they can't replace him with someone who can score the way he can they can make up the ground by his replacement being a better defender, passer, and rebounder.

I also think both Brown and Tatum are going to be all star level guys. Keeping IT to me isn't their best move for long term success right now

Pretty bad. He is routinely overpowered in small-ball lineups when he plays the four spot.

I don't think Raptors are done yet so he probably won't be in this situation much if at all.

Small ball lineup is probably Ibaka, PF, Miles, DeRozan, Lowry.

Raptors just need to find that PF to slot in. Which is why I think even a deal like Hamilton or Poeltl + Siakam for a PF who could slot in during small ball would be a good deal.

Or just do a deal people online threw out there. Love to Raptors, Melo to Cavs, JV and Hamilton to Knicks. Knicks get a dominant young front court with Porzingis and JV. Cavs get a guy Lebron wants there. Raptors get a PF allowing Ibaka to play C, and contract falls in line with their 3 year window.

Well, his 3 point shooting will be a really really welcome addition. I'll take it.

His 3-point shooting numbers in the playoffs are concerning. 26-98 for 26.5%.

He's decent as long as he's guarding 2/3's. Not quick enough for most matchups and will be overpowered in small ball lineups but I doubt he'll play the four for you guys much.
