Steph is a good defender & all his stats/advanced stats point to it. Let's stop overrating bad defenders(KCP,Wiggins) & stop underrating the good ones(Curry etc).

Most people probably believe Westbrook and Wall are better defenders than Curry. People often think guys have to be big or super athletic for their position to be a good defender, when it's really more about effort and knowing where and when to be somewhere.

2017 Offseason Thread

I think Westbrook is a better defender than Curry.

I think Steph has very very good defensive mechanics and instincts, he plays good team defense, has good defensive foot work, and quick hands. But his lack of size and athleticism really hinders how effective his defensive tools are. If he was a couple inches taller, 30 pounds heavier, and an explosive athlete he might actually be a DPOY candidate. Mechanically and instinctively he's got it all, but in a league full of super athletes you often need much more than that.

Westbrook is the opposite. He takes plays off, doesn't always play off ball defense. But he makes up for it with his size and athletic ability. And he's one of the best defensive rebounders in the league. A defensive rebound is just as valuable as a steal, more valuable than forcing a missed shot. Forcing a miss doesn't guarantee your team possession of the ball, a rebound does. He's also a monster in the passing lanes. Not so much in the regular season, but when playoff level competition rolls around he's locked in. He's makes as many plays in the passing lanes as guys like Pippen and LeBron, yet he's a small player without the freakish long arms. Dude looks like he's shooting out of a cannon lol.

Really random that this turned into a point guards and their defense discussion when the only thing that was said about defense was Pack talking about Allen Crabbe lol.

Lol, The whole 'people dont know basketball' take would hit a lot harder had you not tried to tell us LeBron doesnt make his teams better 2 pages back...something else advanced stats support...unless those only apply to the players your a fan of...

Steph is a good off ball defender, on ball he's not good. Steph never guards the best guard on the team whether Klay is in or not.

can't or is simply having Klay Thompson the much better reason and when CLE not having a very good 2 why would you waste Klay Thompson on that just to prove to you Steph Curry can guard PGs which he can.

No he can't. That's just a way to hide Steph Currys defense. You don't see cp3, Westbrook, Lillard, or Wall guarding the SG do you?
