Re: 3/6 - 3/12 Games Discussion Thread
9 straight wins for Portland, who are now 3rd in the West.
They do this every year it seems.

Re: 3/6 - 3/12 Games Discussion Thread
Not to get too technical, but one-foot, two-handers are okay under a number of circumstances. Most importantly, a player needs to be in a position where they'll be able to elevate high enough to literally throw the ball down to some degree. If the takeoff and elevation is more vertical (up-and-down) than horizontal (like an Olympic long jump), then you're usually in good shape. The only player i can think of who consistently does these kind of full speed- ring hang dunks is LeBron, im guessing his grip strength is so high he can get away with it.
This is the best example i could find https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OfaaN-MFC_k
Charles Barkley and Shawn Kemp were two other players who frequently dunked with two-hands off one foot. It was nearly Barkley's signature dunk. As he aged, he kept dunking off one foot with two hands but knew better than to try to hang because he was scraping over the rim at that point.
The danger comes in when guys are usually in a full sprint and/or take off from a step beyond their normal comfort zone, leading them to reaching for the rim instead of throwing down into it. The physics and momentum of such a play often yields disaster. It's like when kids would try to jump and grab the monkey bars without climbing the ladder first.Comment

I don’t like it. Offensive rebounds aren’t easy to get. Why punish the rebounding team by shortening their next possession.
I guarantee he’d be one of the guys complaining about high average scores in the league when the number of possessions goes up but half of them have shortened shot clocks.

Random question relating to that, but why does shotclock go to 14 when things like a foul happen with less than that time remaining? Given the shotclock is 24, why isn't that number 12? But that rebounding one I don't see a need for it at all. Minus officiating (specifically regarding fouls), that's the only thing right now I'd change about basketball, which is the smallest change I think is needed of all the major NA leagues.
Also, exactly a month from today the regular season ends.Comment

But for real, I don't know. The 14 second clock after an offensive rebound is a Euroleague rule, so it's not JVG pulling a number out of a hat.
I don't think it's a necessary change right now, teams don't really milk possessions like that anymore.

48 minutes, 60 seconds per minute divided by 24 seconds is 120 possessions per game, 60 for each team. I know you weren't really asking but I read this somewhere recently and it jumped out to me as one of those things you'd think is arbitrary (I mean, it still is) but actually had some thought put into it.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it
