Re: Eastern Conference Playoffs - 1st Round Discussion Thread

I told yall I was going to look and see how many of Love's misses are open looks. Per NBA shot tracking, on shots where Love is considered "open" (defender 4-6 feet away) Love is 31% from the field, 20% from three. 37% of his shots in the series have been "open" shots.

I've had Love's back for a long time. Back when he was in Minnesota I was saying he isn't as bad of a defender as advertised. Since the trade I've consistently said he's a better player than Chris Bosh was, even last year I was calling him the Cavs second best player.. But right now he looks bad, they really need more from him.

      Players have bad series man.

If the Cavs advance, I expect Love to fare better....he played well in the Philly match ups this season with Joel having to chase him....Turner and Thad Young can recover a lot better and make life more difficult for him...it doesnt help he isn't getting quality post touches...

      Hell come around..

To make matters worse, he is also shooting 33% on shots than are less than 5 feet from the rim, 16% on shots that are 5-9 feet from the rim.

Jeff Green is 22% on "open" shots, Hood is 8%.. On "wide open" shots Green is 20%, JR Smith 20%. Last night, Smith/Love/Hood shot a combined 3/23 for a measly 13% from the field.

He'll have a far better match-up personally with Toronto or Philly if they advance. Still would like to see him hit some open shots and finish some of those plays under the basket he keeps missing on. If nothing else just to get all the misses out of his head.

Oladipo needs to chill it. He’s only shooting 36% from the floor in this series and has been pretty terrible since game 1.

He seems to have turned into a spot up shooter in Cleveland. Like Chris Bosh in Miami with LeBron. Not to criticize LeBron, but I’m not sure his game is very compatible with a dominant big (which Love looked like in Minnesota, but is s far cry of his former self now). Seems like Love needs more touches than he gets in Cleveland’s offense.

Or maybe he just isn’t as good as he used to be. I don’t know. He’s still a very good rebounder, at least, and has come up with some key offensive rebounds in this series.

Love needs to get fat again, that's why he's not as good as he used to be.

I called this right after the trade. Gimme some time to go back and find that post but I definitely remember saying he’ll be relegated to Bosh-Lite playing with Lebron and that someone would have to sacrifice their gam(out of Bron, Kyrie and Love)and Love was the obvious one.

I’m still waiting on these new additions they made back in February to make a difference. Looking at you, Hood, Clarkson and Nance. Their impact in this series has been minimal at best so far.

As for the Wizards series, they lost that one over the last few minutes of the 4th, man. Couldn’t hit a basket over that stretch, Wall looking gassed.

He’s definitely still a great rebounder, a great passer, sets good screens, reads when he needs to roll/pop better than most players in the league do. Just not shooting well right now.

He took just as many 3’s in Minny, granted a lower percentage of his shot total, and I feel like he played outside a good chunk in Minnesota. He actually used to handle the ball a lot for them in the halfcourt. I never really viewed him as a pure on the box scorer. He did get more post looks, but struggles to finish them consistently now. I think it’s in large part because he’s smaller, he’s matched up with centers now, and his reps are a little lower.

He started this season off great, stupid injury set him back a bit. He’s had so many over the past few seasons that I think his rhythm and consistency had been all over the place. Every time he gets it all going well for himself he gets hurt.

Not even joking, him losing weight has hurt his post game a bit.

Not to pile it on.. but the Cavs would be done if Oladipo were hitting anything. LeBron and Korver were the only players to make more than 2 shots last game. 2... wow

Yeah I’m more disappointed in Dipo than I am with losing. I wasn’t expecting to win going in, but being that damn close and him not showing up for 3 games makes it hard. If he scores 30 every game and we still lose that’s easier to take. Hope it’s just a bad stretch of games from him and not something we’ll see in future playoffs.
