I didn't know he skipped the combine until this news broke. That's really ballsy on his agent's part: skip college, don't play pro overseas, AND skip the combine? I can see why he fell. Still, I would imagine someone who got a private workout with him would have taken a shot on him with a late 1st. Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
Think this has ANY impact at all on the whole Kawhi/Spurs/Lakers/Everybody Else thing currently going on?
From Woj:
Kawhi Leonard is now super max eligible (third year anniversary of the contract signed on July 16, 2015) to receive a five-year $221 million extension from the Spurs. If Leonard is traded, the most he could receive in an extension (six months after the trade) would be $108 million over four-years (starting in 2019-20). Leonard would be eligible to sign a five-year $190 million contract as a free agent with the team acquiring him or four-years $141 million with a team that has cap space. Leonard would not be super max eligible as a free agent with the new team acquiring him even if he earned All-NBA honors in 2018-19.Comment

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
Is it possible for a player to sign a super max deal as part of a sign n trade?
Or does this devolve into the "LeBron in his ear" chatter about taking less to play where he wantsWolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
Idk, I guess it depends what he relationship is with the Spurs now vs what is has been the past couple months. He knew the Supermax was coming and still wanted out, so I wouldn’t think anything would have changed now.

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
Man it seemed not that long ago when people here on OS would talk of Kawhi in a different light.
Spurs fan were proud of him. Talking about another "Spurs guy" quiet, reserved, humble etc. Now it's been a complete 180 since this whole 'injury / I don't wanna play here any longer' thing transpired. I realize many people are of the opinion that this is his 'inner circle / family' doings. But ultimately it's Kawhi's decision on how to handle this.Comment

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
Edit: Woj from mid-June, shortly before Kawhi requested a trade:History suggests the Spurs could want to see Leonard return to the active lineup before making a super-max offer next year, see him reinvested fully into the program. To think Popovich will walk into a room after months of discontent and immediately drop that $219 million on Leonard goes against every way the Spurs have operated.Last edited by Yeah...THAT Guy; 07-16-2018, 09:17 AM.NFL: Bills

I mean, things are kind of different when there's the prospect of a supermax contract and the actual contract is actually on the table in front of him.Comment

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
Yeah maybe.. but it’s not like he hasn’t known that he was eligible for this for awhile now. Might change your mind when it’s staring you in the face, but it just seems like his mind is made up.

I meant he knew he was eligible for it whether they actually offer it or not.

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
Here's a thought. Likely not the case, but it is a thought I guess. What if this was the play from Kawhi and his camp the whole time? They got wind that there wasn't any certainty that the Spurs would be willing to give him the supermax and with the injury last season, it made it even less likely that they'd be willing to do it. So you create this environment where Kawhi's camp, NOT Kawhi is the bad guy pushing him away from the franchise and making it known that LA is the place he's got his eyes locked on in an attempt to push San Antonio into a state of desperation where putting the supermax on the table is the best chance to keep Kawhi with the organization?Comment
