    Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread

Think it depends on the player/position when it comes to spreading the floor.

Obviously, not everyone is going to shoot 40% from 3 but if you’re shooting 25-30% from out there(again, depends on the position/player and context as well)I would necessarily classify you as an outside threat, which I assume is what one would have to be to “spread the floor”, if that makes sense.

Idk, I feel like it’s a bit of semantics over the phrase.

Yeah I would agree with this.

In DeRozan’s case, I would never say he wasn’t spreading the floor even he didn’t even take the 3 because if you’re leaving him in those situations he would gladly take a dribble and pull up for midrange where he is pretty much cash.

So I’m pretty much every scenario DeRozan is still spreading the floor. Guys don’t just leave and give him his space. A couple seasons ago when he really “broke out” he led the league in scoring for roughly the first 2 months of the season. He hasn’t saw much daylight since then.

That's not really what spreading the floor is though. Your impact should be felt on offense even if you don't actually get the ball. If a (smart) defender is unwilling to cheat off of you more often than not to help out on your teammate driving to the hoop, you're spreading the floor for him.

In DeMar's case, no sane defender would stay attached to him when he is such a shaky outside shooter. Sure they'll probably close out when he gets the ball, but before then they will roam around and quickly help out on other teammates.

Nah, I never said that. I just said they aren't beating Boston. They can beat those teams. But I don't see this move pushing them above those teams.

I guess Milwaukee has to earn their way into the conversation. But I feel like this might be their break out year. I like what they are doing over there.

Point is Toronto doesn't look special to me. And this is such a gamble.

It’s always been a benchmark for ridiculously good shooters. Durant is one of the best jumpers shooters in the league and has hit over 40% four times in his career.

I don’t know how the numbers come out but Curry and Thompson may well be the only players in history to have hit 40% in every season of their careers. Obviously using some kind of barometer (minimum 200 games or something) but it should never be seen that sub-40 percent shooters aren’t a threat, imo.

Yeah 40+ is really good. Curry the best shooting ever for his career is a 43.6% shooter with his worst year being 41.1 during the 2016-17 season and his best year being 45.5 during the 2011-12 season.

I agree that Milwaukee could definitely break out this year. Between obviously Giannis, Middleton's gradual improvement, the shooting they added in free agency, and coach Bud, I could see them being in maybe the top four in the EC.

Also, not trying to attack you or anyone that doesn't like the Kawhi trade, but I love it. I think that even if Kawhi is not 100% he is still a big upgrade over DeMar. As good of a player as DeRozan is, Kawhi is pretty much better at everything except maybe playmaking. I agree with what Ujiri said in that if you have the opportunity to get a top 5 player, you have to take it. I really don't buy this stuff that he won't be motivated to play or that he's 100% leaving next year. Not even comparing the situation to Paul George, but people forget that A LOT can change in a year.

In the worst kept secret of the offseason news, Yahoo Sports reports that Carmelo Anthony will sign with the Houston Rockets for $2.4 million after he clears waivers.

                    Lol, Dwight Howard's press conference
                    “Learned Magic for 8 years,

                    traveled to La La Land,

learned how to work with Rockets,

                    how to fly with Hawks,

                    got stung by the Hornets,

and that's taught me how to be a Wizard”

If you’re enough of a threat from deep to take multiple attempts per game and defenses are still lunging at you to contest you are still spreading the floor.

Guys who don’t spread the floor are guys defenders let have shots and refuse to properly close out on. Rondo, Allen, Roberson, Smart.. Hell as poorly as Lonzo shot last year most games he was still spreading the floor.

Derozan absolutely does not spread the floor. You can leave a 30 percent shooter open.. I'll take my chances thanks. I have watched derozan his whole career defenders always go under the screen with him.

Players don't just leave DeRozan the way they would a guy like Rondo though. And that's fine, but watching Derozan his whole career vs these past two seasons is a bit of a difference.

Which is part of his career that I mentioned I watched. Teams can pack the paint with derozan on the floor ESPECIALLY in the playoffs.

Derozan lacks bbiq I think this is the underlining problem. Even kawhi at 75 percent is still better.

Anybody got a scouting report on guard Antonious Cleveland? Bulls have apparently claimed him off waivers from the Hawks.

Also they signed undrafted Arizona guard Rawle Alkins to a two way contract yesterday. Anybody know anything about him from college? How’d he look with Ayton?
