A four year extension for a player at that age and with the injury history of Love is a huge risk. Love will almost certainly appear in the "worst contracts in the league" stories written in 2020. Maybe they squeeze some surplus value out in the first few years.

Ehh idk. He'll be around 34 for that last year it's not like he's going to be 40. For a player who doesn't rely on athleticism that is probably right around the time you want that contract to end. Cleveland isn't exactly the place to be pulling any big time free agents, retaining him is pretty big for them.

Yeah I would agree, I think it is pretty good for the CAVS.
He will average about 22 and 12 for them so that's not horrible money.
And he has averaged almost 70 games a year the last 5 years, its not like he is always hurt.

The thunder signed Hamidou Diallo.... He's going to be a good player. He was top 5 rated player going into last year. Surprised he dropped so far.

I thought the Nets should of kept him.

Disagree. Two years from now it will be a horrible contract.

I'd be interested in knowing what makes you think that? for comparison sake money wise, his per year money is going to be comparable to guys like Kyle Lowry, Paul Millsap, Gordon Hayward, Al Horford, not much over guys like Otto Porter, Andrew Wiggins, etc.

From the Cavs side, if they don't retain Love they have little to no shot at securing other free agents, considering there is a slim chance at that now even with Love. But after this season they have 18mil going out with Hill (only has a 1mil guarantee for the next season) about 15mil going out with JR (has like 3mil guaranteed the next season), two seasons from now 18+ going out with Thompson, 13+ form Clarkson, 7.5 from Korver.

So over the span of the next couple seasons they have the money for another "max guy" or the money to pay any of Osman, Clarkson, Hood, Nance, during the event that one of them has a breakout year. With Love they have a chance to actually bring in someone with that cap space, especially if Sexton is the real deal. Without Love it's really that reasonable to assume they could land anyone.

Plus as mentioned before dude is only 29 years old right now. He'll end this contract around 34ish years old, for comparison Dirk who is another guy who doesn't rely on his athletic abilities was still giving his similar production around that age. Hell he was turning 33 when they won the title, I think his birthday was like the week after.

A couple years from now I definitely think he'll be overpaid, but considering what it could mean for the Cavs are far as staying relevant possibly landing other pieces I think it's a really good move for them. It's better than wha most teams are doing, spending all their money on their 3rd and 4th best players so they can never afford to pair what they need with their "stars" and keep losing in the first round. Washington with Otto for example, Lowry in Toronto, Wiggins in Minny, etc.

Why would Vince go to the Hawks lol..

This move is just as random as the Kings move. Just go retire in Toronto already .

Vince obviously made his peace with his career in terms of not winning a title long ago and just plays for the love, because why would you retire if you still feel good and they keep paying you.

I really want him to go back to Toronto, and not on some kind of deal like Pierce had with Boston.
